𝗕𝗥𝗜𝗗𝗚𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗚𝗔𝗣: 𝗙𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗨𝗻𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗱𝗮 Since 2018, DIGITAL has supported 25 environment-focused projects, representing more than $223M in combined industry and DIGITAL co-investment. And in 2025, we launched our Future of Mining and Energy Call for Proposals, which received 34 exceptional Expressions of Interest. Resulting in an additional $72M of new investment for selected projects. A major focus of our mining portfolio is bringing together builders, buyers, governments, and researchers to advance a more innovative and sustainable future for Canada’s mining sector through the adoption and commercialization of Canadian-made mining solutions. At the centre of these conversations is a critical question: 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘊𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘥𝘢 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥-𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘵𝘩, 𝘨𝘭𝘰𝘣𝘢𝘭 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨-𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘮 𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘤 𝘷𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘦? In January 2026 alongside AME Roundup, we hosted a Mining Innovation Roundtable as part of our Leadership Roundtable Series. Following the discussion, DIGITAL Program Leads Christopher Doody and Artyom Mamzhiev co-authored an insights report capturing the key themes, challenges, and opportunities raised by industry leaders — from what innovators need to scale and commercialize, to what buyers need in order to invest in and adopt emerging technologies, and where the current gaps in mining innovation exist. As Canada celebrates Mining Month in May, this report reinforces the importance of collaboration in innovation to shape the future of one of the country’s most critical sectors. We’re proud to share these insights with builders, buyers, and the broader ecosystem interested in advancing mining innovation in Canada. Venture Spotlight at Web Summit Vancouver 2025: 🪨 Ideon Technologies is a City of Richmond-based company that harnesses energy from supernova explosions to help mining companies identify, map, and monitor mineral deposits deep beneath the Earth’s surface. Their solutions reduce geologic uncertainty, enabling more efficient and responsible resource development. 🐟 7 Leagues Leather is a City of Vancouver-based company making clean, strong, and beautiful fish leather, an eco-friendly alternative to traditional animal leather. By upcycling fish skins—a byproduct of seafood processing—they promote sustainable practices and innovation in the leather goods industry, producing high-quality leather goods that are environmentally responsible. Taking part in the B.C. Venture Spotlight at #WSV25 allowed Ideon and 7 Leagues Leather to reach global audiences and increase their visibility, demonstrating how #BC innovation is advancing sustainable solutions for the world.
