  • Celebrating Poets, Writers, and the Communities That Support Them Hachette Book Group was proud to support the 2026 Poets & Writers, Inc. Gala in New York City; an evening dedicated to honoring the vital role poets and writers play in shaping culture, conversation, and connection. As one of the nation’s leading nonprofit organizations supporting creative writers, Poets & Writers, Inc. continues to provide essential resources, build community, and expand access to opportunities for poets and writers at every stage of their careers. This year’s gala raised more than $1 million to support that ongoing work. We were especially proud to see David Shelley, CEO of Hachette Book Group, serve as chair of this year’s event—bringing together leaders across publishing and the literary community in celebration of storytelling and those who make it possible. Congratulations to this year’s honorees, including Tina Chang, Khaled Hosseini, and Eugene Redmond, and to host Ophira Eisenberg for leading the evening. At Hachette, our mission is to make it easy for everyone to discover new worlds of ideas, learning, entertainment, and opportunity. Supporting organizations like Poets & Writers reflects that commitment; ensuring that poets, writers, and storytellers are empowered, diverse voices are elevated, and stories continue to reach readers everywhere.

Founded in 1970, Poets & Writers, Inc. is the nation’s leading nonprofit organization serving creative writers. Its mission is to foster professional development of poets and writers, promote communication throughout the literary community, and to create an environment in which literature can be appreciated by the widest possible public. Annually, tens of thousands of poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers benefit from Poets & Writers’ publications and programs via information on how to get published and moreover connecting writers with life-changing opportunities. Poets & Writers Magazine is the leading publication of its kind from addressing issues of importance to creative writers, from finding an agent to promoting one’s book. It provide necessary resources for writers seeking inspiration and career guidance to inspire the next generation of poets and writers. Both poetry and writing are responsible for much of who I am as a creative storyteller. When I think of poetry, I think of my late grandmother Bessie Simpson born 1912, who wrote masterpieces throughout her life. Seeing grandma’s poetry published and moreover reading it as child remains some of my favorite core memories. A fellow storyteller, my late grandmother gifted me with my first typewriter which presented me with a whole new world — very in-line with Hachette Book Group’s mission — which is to make it easy for everyone to discover new worlds of ideas, learning, entertainment and opportunity. This past Monday Hachette UK and #HBG CEO David Shelley served as chair of the 2026 Poets & Writers, Inc. annual gala honoring today’s leading poets and writers. It was lovely to be in the welcoming room filled with those who are committed to championing excellence in writing. I had the honor of attending the event with many great colleagues across the organization including three of my communications teammates Aya Elamroussi , Sojourner Elleby and Taylor Norton (whom I’m pictured with below). Always lovely to see Amy DuBois Barnett as well. Congratulations to all of the 2026 honorees! #poetsandwriters

  • Creating Pathways into Publishing Recently, Hachette Book Group had the opportunity to welcome a group of high school students from The International High School at LaGuardia Community College, a multicultural educational environment serving students who are English language learners and have recently moved to the United States, to our offices as part of their internship program. Throughout the visit, students learned about careers across publishing, with presentations from colleagues in production, editorial, marketing, and design. The goal was to provide a window into the many pathways within the industry and help students envision themselves in roles where Latine professionals have historically been—and continue to be—underrepresented. Following the presentations, students joined Hachette employees for a networking lunch, creating space for conversation, connection, and questions about navigating careers in publishing. Experiences like this are an important step toward building a more inclusive and representative industry. We’re excited about the opportunity to grow this partnership and continue creating pathways for students to explore publishing. A special thank you to our Black and Latine Employee Resource Groups for hosting and coordinating this experience, including Sara Munjack, Director of Diversity and Avani Goswami, Employee Experience & DEI Coordinator; Morgan James, Black ERG Leader; and Yesenia C. and Fabiana L., leaders of our Latine ERG.

  • Scenes from the The London Book Fair Colleagues from across Hachette gathered at The London Book Fair, where more than 30,000 publishing professionals came together to exchange ideas, build partnerships, and explore the future of the industry. Throughout the fair, visitors to the Hachette UK stand were invited to take part in Raising Readers, our initiative focused on encouraging children to read for pleasure. Attendees signed the Raising Readers pledge wall, committing to read with the children in their lives for just 10 minutes a day—a simple but powerful habit that helps nurture curiosity, imagination, and a lifelong love of books. Because books build bright futures, moments like these reflect the shared mission of the global publishing community: connecting people with stories and ensuring that the next generation of readers has every opportunity to discover the joy of reading.
