Environmental Officer – Stephanie | Meet Team Cooke Meet Stephanie, our Environmental Officer based in #Shetland. Stephanie is part of the team responsible for using the Deep Trekker ROV to get a better picture of the seabed below our sites. “The most rewarding part of my job is being in the marine environment. I’ve been lucky enough to see whales, dolphins and fish, and weird sea creatures from the bottom of the sea - and even a baby octopus once!” During each farming cycle, Cooke is responsible for monitoring the seabed within and beyond the salmon pens. 🐟 What a night at the National Arts Centre.   Last evening, we brought together aquaculture leaders, blue food innovators, government officials and industry partners in Ottawa for "Scaling Blue Foods: Canada's Economic Opportunity". The conversation could not have been more timely.   The evening opened with a keynote from Dr. Michael von Massow, Professor at the University of Guelph, who made a compelling case that blue foods are too often left out of the broader food system conversation; treated as a category apart, rather than as the agricultural powerhouse they truly are. His message was clear: aquaculture is agriculture, and it's time our policies, investments and national dialogue reflected that.   The panel that followed brought that message to life, with voices from across the industry: - Chef Ned Bell, Co-Owner, Hatch Hospitality - Tim Kennedy, President & CEO, Canadian Aquaculture Industry Alliance - Kendra MacDonald, CEO, Canada's Ocean Supercluster - Mia Parker, Director of Environmental Performance & Certification, Mowi Canada West - Kallie Wood, President & CEO, National Circle for Indigenous Agriculture and Food   One theme that resonated loudly throughout the evening: Canada is at risk of becoming increasingly dependent on imported seafood at the very moment we should be investing in domestic production. We have the coastlines, the expertise, the innovation, and the natural resources. What we need is the national will to match. Blue foods belong in Canada's food security strategy.   The evening closed with a networking reception featuring world-class Canadian farmed seafood donated from coast to coast. A través de Aquicultura Balear, hemos colaborado junto a la Conselleria de Agricultura, Pesca y Medio Natural Govern de les Illes Balears y el IRFAP en una nueva donación de 3.500 lubinas destinadas a entidades sociales de Mallorca. Una iniciativa que contribuye a acercar producto de calidad a quienes más lo necesitan, al mismo tiempo que pone en valor el papel social de la acuicultura. 🌊 Celebramos el segundo School Trip con una jornada muy especial en la que seguimos acercando la acuicultura a la sociedad. Durante la visita, los asistentes pudieron conocer de cerca nuestro trabajo en mar abierto. 🚤🐟 Contamos con la presencia de representantes políticos locales y regionales, así como miembros de CECLOR, Hosteaguilas, ACIA y otras asociaciones de hostelería de la Región de Murcia. Gracias al apoyo de HosteÁguilas, pudimos además acercar esta iniciativa al sector hostelero. Una jornada que refuerza nuestro compromiso con la divulgación y con el desarrollo de un sector clave para nuestro entorno.
