I was honored to participate last week in The National Energy and Utility Affordability Coalition (NEUAC) LIHEAP Action Day in Washington, serving as the state lead for New Hampshire and Kansas. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a federal program that helps eligible low-income households with home energy costs, and often serves as a one-time life line to help utility customers avoid hard choices between necessities such as food, medicine and heat in times of hardship. LIHEAP plays a crucial role in helping income-constrained families afford energy costs, preventing disconnections, and improving energy efficiency, ultimately impacting poverty levels and enhancing the overall well-being and safety of vulnerable households. It was wonderful to partner with Ryan Clouthier, CEO of Community Action Partnership, Hillsborough and Rockingham Counties; John Rich, President and CEO and Shelly Stroessner, Vice President/Director of Programs, Mid America Assistance Coalition; Liam Dobson, National Energy & Fuels Institute, as well as The National Energy and Utility Affordability Coalition (NEUAC) to provide examples of how LIHEAP has helped families in New Hampshire, and Missouri and Kansas, and to hear continued bipartisan support from lawmakers.
