♻️ According to a 2025 report, over 19,000 tonnes of mineral wool waste were generated in Austria in 2023, and 97% of it was landfilled. At Knauf Insulation, we want to change that. A new recycling facility at our Ferndorf (Carinthia) site will recycle Glass Mineral Wool, Rock Mineral Wool and Tektalan (Wood Wool + Rock Mineral Wool), regardless of manufacturer. Building on years of hands-on experience, it will also make it possible to reuse material from renovation and demolition projects. Planned for commissioning by the end of 2026, this project supports Austria’s 2027 landfill ban on mineral wool and reflects our long-term support of a circular economy. With a total capacity of 19,500 tonnes per year, the Ferndorf is a €30 million investment for circularity, for the local economy, and for the future of insulation. On this International Day of Zero Waste, we are reminded that the journey to zero waste starts with commitment, and real commitment takes action. We will continue to act for a better tomorrow. #InternationalDayofZeroWaste
About us
Knauf Insulation is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of insulation products and solutions. Each day we push ourselves and remain entirely dedicated to supporting our customers in meeting the rising demand for energy efficiency and sustainability in homes, non-residential buildings and industrial applications. A diverse range of insulation solutions As an insulation leader, we offer a complete product portfolio for even the most diverse building challenges. Our high-quality mineral wool insulation materials include glass mineral wool with ECOSE® Technology, rock mineral wool, blowing (or loose) wool and wood wool. Energy efficiency is at the heart of our business We are deeply committed to energy efficiency and recognise the pivotal role that buildings play in Europe’s battle against climate change. With buildings accounting for 40% of energy consumption and 38% of Co2 emissions, addressing this issue is critical. To achieve net zero by 2050, we must act now if we want to build a chance to halve these carbon emissions by 2030. This is why we actively advocate to keep energy efficient at the heart of public debate in every country where we operate.Continued focus on product and development We are actively addressing the growing global demand for effective solutions to enhance the energy efficiency of existing buildings and minimise the heating energy requirements of new builds. With an emphasis on driving forward the advancement of energy efficient insulation materials and insulation systems, we are tackling these challenges head on.

🏢When it comes to carbon emissions, buildings should be at the top of the conversation. Being responsible for 40%* of energy use across Europe, buildings generate a third of the continent’s carbon emissions. However, they aren’t often placed in the same discussion as other high-emission sectors. Energy-efficient renovations have to be seen as a priority. Through them, we can directly lower the largest energy consumer in Europe, and sharply reduce our buildings’ carbon footprint. So let's flip the script and make energy efficiency a top priority. Together, we can reduce emissions and create sustainable, cost-effective spaces that will last for generations. 🌍 *2022 data, assumptions still valid

🧯‘Reaction to fire’ and ‘fire resistance’ are often used interchangeably. But they measure two different, but equally important, aspects of fire safety. ➡️‘Reaction to fire’ describes how a product behaves when exposed to fire, and how a product or system contributes to the development and spread of fire. ➡️‘Fire resistance’ describes the ability of a system (of which insulation is just a part) to resist the passage of fire from one area to another. Insulation products are always used as part of a system, and the overall fire resistance of your building depends on how all the materials and components in your system work together in case of a fire.

♻️ 35% of Europe's waste comes from the construction industry. That’s why closing the loop is no longer optional. On this Global Recycling Day, it’s important to remember that landfills are filling up, and raw materials are becoming scarcer. It is everyone's responsibility to do their part in preserving natural resources and reducing waste. We are taking these steps with Resulation, turning mineral wool waste into valuable resources that are fed back into our production. By doing so, we help: ✅ Reduce landfill waste ✅ Create new, sustainable insulation materials ✅ Support a more circular built environment Because today’s buildings should not become tomorrow’s waste. #GlobalRecyclingDay

🌡️ Not all insulation materials need to withstand 1000°C to be safe. Here are the facts. For most common applications, it is not necessary for all insulation materials to withstand 1000°C. What is important is that the overall system (of which the insulation is a part) meets the specified R/E/I requirements. R/E/I are fire resistance ratings, measured in minutes: ➡️ R - Load-bearing capacity: How long the structure remains stable before collapsing ➡️ E - Integrity: How well it prevents flames, smoke, and gases from passing through ➡️ I - Insulation: How long it prevents heat transfer to the unexposed side In fact, both low-density Rock Mineral Wool and Glass Mineral Wool can be used in systems tested to resist up to 1000°C, helping to: ➡️Delay fire spread ➡️Reduce smoke development ➡️Ensure sufficient time for evacuation and firefighting #GlassMineralWool #RockMineralWool

🌍 Our 2025 CDP results are in We’ve received our latest scores from CDP the global non-profit that supports companies in reporting and managing environmental impact. ✅ Our 2025 scores • Supplier Engagement Assessment: A • Climate Change: B • Water Security: B- Our Supplier Engagement Assessment improved from A- last year to A. This score sits under CDP’s “Leadership” level, which represents best practice performance, reflecting our strong collaboration with partners across the value chain to reduce emissions beyond our own operations. Our climate change and water security scores sit in CDP’s “Management” level, meaning we are addressing these issues in a structured and consistent way across the organisation. We outperform European and global averages on water security and are aligned with the global average on climate change. Three years ago, our rating was D. Moving to A and B scores reflects focused action across our teams, from reducing environmental impacts across our value chain to improving energy efficiency, cutting emissions and strengthening water stewardship. There is more work ahead, and our ambition remains high. But steady, measurable progress is how real change happens. #CDP #ClimateAction #WaterSecurity

Europe is taking practical steps to deliver better homes. 🏠 Today the European Parliament adopted its Housing report, setting clear recommendations for the European Commission to help accelerate delivery across the 27 Member States. We welcome the focus on: ✅ Ensuring fire safety and raising fire safety standards ✅ Reducing red tape to speed up projects ✅ Unlocking the potential of lightweight top-up construction and prefabrication ✅ Securing access to critical raw materials for construction ✅ Importance of supporting construction products made in Europe While the report outlines further steps on repurposing and renovation to tackle the housing crisis, staying the course on the Energy Efficiency Directive and the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive is essential. Improving energy performance of Europe’s building stock means lower bills for households, stronger energy security and fewer emissions. At Knauf Insulation, we count on the European Commission to place the right focus in tackling the housing crisis, by encouraging new energy efficient construction while also increasing the renovation rate to tackle Europe’s housing crisis to ensure safe and affordable homes for everyone. #energyefficiency #renovation #affordablehousing
