Last week, our General Manager, @Markus Elsperger, was in Brussels to meet stakeholders from the European Commission, the European Parliament and wider networks. The focus of the visit: making the case for urban resilience, and showing how green roofs can play a key role in helping cities adapt to climate change. Because green roofs are much more than an architectural feature. They can help buildings cope with extreme temperatures, manage rainwater, support biodiversity and create healthier, more liveable urban spaces. Thank you, Markus, for bringing this expertise into important policy conversations.
What happens when technical expertise meets EU policy discussions? Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming our colleague Markus Elsperger to Brussels for a series of meetings with the European Commission, the European Parliament and external stakeholders. The focus of the visit was green infrastructure, and how solutions such as green roofs can help cities respond to several challenges at once. Because this is not just about adding more green space to buildings. It is about helping cities become more resilient, more liveable and better prepared for climate change. During the discussions, Markus shared how green infrastructure can: 🌿 help buildings cope better with extreme temperatures 💧 relieve pressure on sewage systems by detaining rainwater, with green roofs acting like giant sponges above our cities ☀️ improve the efficiency of photovoltaic systems when combined with green roofs, creating so-called bio-solar roofs 🐝 support biodiversity by creating new green hubs for bees, insects and residents alike European legislation such as the Nature Restoration Law, and upcoming initiatives like the Climate Resilience Framework, are setting the right direction. But the real question is: 👉 How do we make sure these ambitions work in practice? That is why exchanges like this matter. They help connect policy with practical solutions, technical knowledge and real-life implementation. A sincere thank you to MEP Alexander Bernhuber for the thoughtful exchange on green infrastructure and technological neutrality, to Eurocities for sharing the city perspective, and to the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Environment for a constructive discussion.

Measured Data Confirms: Water Conservation and Landscape Quality Are Not Mutually Exclusive 🌱 A common misconception persists: Reducing water input reduces landscape performance. The Dubai trial disproved this assumption. Despite a 50% reduction in cumulative irrigation demand and visual uniformity remained uncompromised. This confirms that root-zone water availability — not irrigation volume alone — determines vegetation stability. 📚 Scientific insight: Retention efficiency enhances plant-available water, reducing stress cycles. This positions Green Roll not merely as a product, but as a root-zone engineering solution. ➡ Review the full case study and technical data here: https://lnkd.in/dVwu38tE #WaterRetention #GreenRoll #UrbanHydrology #KIUrbanscape 💧

As data centres grow, the conversation is shifting beyond servers and infrastructure — toward smarter, more resilient buildings. We’re excited that Urbanscape will be joining the Data Cloud Congress in Cannes from 1–4 June 2026, where industry leaders will explore the future of data centre performance, efficiency and innovation. As demand for cooling capacity, energy efficiency and operational resilience continues to rise, rooftops are becoming an increasingly important part of the equation. Green roofs can help reduce roof surface temperatures, limit heat build-up and support more stable indoor conditions — helping lower cooling demand. A cooler rooftop environment can also contribute to improved performance of solar panels, HVAC systems and other rooftop equipment. And with Urbanscape, performance goes beyond climate resilience. Thanks to our rock mineral wool-based system, fire safety becomes part of the solution too. Marta Rychlewski, Business Development Manager at Urbanscape Green Solutions, is looking forward to inspiring conversations and new connections throughout the event. Attending Data Cloud Congress in Cannes from 1–4 June? Let’s connect. 👋 #DatacloudCongress #Cannes #DataCentres #Innovation #Cooling #GreenRoofs #Urbanscape #KnaufInsulation #Networking
