Dr. Md Ekram Hossain, Executive Director of the Center for Research Innovation and Development (CRID), was invited to attend the 2025 Sichuan–South Asia and Southeast Asian Countries Business Development Cooperation Conference held in Sichuan from September 9 to 12 to advance Sichuan’s “southward expansion,” deepen economic and investment ties with South and Southeast Asia, and promote an open economy. Organized by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Sichuan, the event carried the theme “Together We Progress, Pursuing Common Prosperity: Building a New Pattern of Synergy in Industry and Supply Chains.”
Distinguished participants included the Deputy Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development of Sri Lanka, the guest of honor; the Sri Lankan Ambassador to China; the Acting President of the SAARC Chamber of Commerce; and the Secretary-General of the China–ASEAN Center. More than 300 representatives from embassies, consulates, government agencies, business associations, enterprises, academics, and think tanks from 14 South and Southeast Asian countries took part.
Bangladesh was represented by a 10-member delegation from the Bangladesh-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCCI) led by Administrator and Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Nargis Murshida. The team included Bangladesh Consul General in Kunming Md Khaled; chamber members Asif Haque Rupu, Mona Haque, SM Kafil Uddin; and Dr. Md Ekram Hossain of CRID Bangladesh.
Now in its 13th year, the Conference featured seminars, trade promotions, project signings, business negotiations, special exhibitions, and local inspections. These activities built consensus, generated business opportunities, and pushed cooperation beyond traditional sectors into the digital and green economies and interconnected industrial and supply chains.
Amid rising protectionism and shifting supply chains, the meeting reaffirmed the potential of China–South and Southeast Asian cooperation and the need for openness and mutual benefit, strengthening platforms for dialogue, investment promotion, and legal cooperation to deepen regional integration and set the stage for broader shared growth.
