About us

We’ve ensured the smooth operation of over 11,517 km of high-voltage transmission lines and 136 substations and switching stations across NSW and the ACT, with interconnections to QLD and VIC. Our most crucial work is leading the transition to Australia’s clean energy future. The traditional coal system that served our country for decades is nearing the end of its life, to be replaced by wind and solar generation. We’re making the right decisions now to prepare for the opportunities and challenges ahead – a changing climate, population growth and technology innovation. As we lead the way towards a more resilient future, we’re working closely with our customers and communities to make sure no one is left behind. Wherever you are in NSW or the ACT, you can be confident in the reliable, affordable and sustainable electricity we transmit as we make a better power system for generations to come.

  • As demand for power grows in Greater Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong, early planning helps ensure communities can help shape their future electricity supply. We've released the Sydney Ring South Project Assessment Draft Report, which sets out our assessment of options to strengthen the electricity network into South West Sydney and supply lower-cost renewable energy to households and businesses in the region. At this early stage with no route or corridor identified, we'd like to begin a conversation with communities, businesses and stakeholders to understand feedback on Sydney Ring South. • Bringing local businesses together creates opportunities to share information and discuss what's happening across the region. Yesterday, members of the Wagga Wagga Business Chamber joined us at the Discovery Hub to learn more about how projects like HumeLink are helping prepare the network for growing energy needs across NSW. Thank you to the Wagga Wagga Business Chamber for bringing local businesses together to learn more about the infrastructure supporting our region. Learn more: https://brnw.ch/21x2Vgv

For large energy users, a reliable and well-planned system provides greater certainty to invest, electrify and grow. That’s why strong transmission is not just infrastructure, but an enabler of long-term economic opportunity. That was part of what we heard at the Energy Users Association of Australia National Conference, where we spoke with large energy users about reliability, transparency around network constraints, and continued coordination as the energy system changes - including the importance of balancing current cost pressures with the long-term value that a well-planned network can deliver. Our Executive GM of Delivery, Jennifer Hughes, joined Alistair Parker and Daniel Andersen on a panel moderated by Leigh Clemow to discuss progress on the Energy Transition Superhighway and what it will take to deliver a secure and reliable transmission network in a more complex system. Thank you to EUAA, our fellow panellists and everyone who contributed to the discussion.

  • We were pleased to host the Electric Energy Society of Australia (EESA) Live Work Forum in Sydney last week, bringing together professionals from transmission and distribution networks, and delivery partners for open, technical discussion and shared learning. There’s real value in creating space for experts to share practical experience of live line work and learn from one another. Consistent standards, strong capability and honest knowledge‑sharing across the industry are essential to keeping people safe, and a clear message from the forum was that this work cannot be progressed by any one organisation alone. As the network continues to evolve, maintaining a reliable supply will be strengthened by how the industry works together, applying shared discipline, experience and increasingly advanced methods, now and into the future. Our thanks to EESA and everyone who shared their experience and expertise.

  • Being awarded a $20,000 scholarship means a lot to regional students who can study engineering closer to home, and stay connected to the communities that shaped them. This year, 23 students from regional NSW have received Transgrid Engineering Scholarships to support their studies at Charles Sturt University. Now in its fourth year, the scholarship fund is supporting 100 engineering students over four years, helping ease the cost of study while building skills for Australia’s clean energy future. • More people can now study for a degree without leaving Tumut. The Country Universities Centres Snowy Valleys is a new local study hub. It's making university and TAFE more accessible, offering dedicated spaces, high-speed internet and academic support that's close to home. Delivered with early funding through the HumeLink Community Investment Benefits Program, alongside our HumeLink East delivery partners, ACCIONA & GenusPlus Group, supports students enrolled with universities and TAFE providers across Australia, helping them stay connected to local community while they study. What does access like this mean for regional communities? Learn more: https://brnw.ch/21x2QKp

  • Regional communities are receiving an economic boost as construction of the nation-critical HumeLink project ramps up. By working with local businesses like Ironbark Training, HumeLink is helping build skills, strengthen capacity and support ongoing work opportunities across the region. Across HumeLink East and West, this contributes to: * Up to 1,600 construction roles at peak * $6.3 billion in direct and indirect investment * Stronger local supply chains over time Learn more: https://brnw.ch/21x2OJH

  • This month, we officially re-opened our Newcastle depot after a very welcome upgrade for our teams based there. More space, better facilities, and a workplace that makes the day-to-day a bit easier – whether that’s getting organised at the start of a shift, resetting after a long one, or just having somewhere decent to land. It’s a practical step to better support our people. Having a base that works for them can make a real difference to wellbeing and focus on the job. We were also grateful to share the moment with Clontarf Foundation, who delivered an Acknowledgement of Country and worked alongside the team on a guided painting – a memorable way to mark the opening and spend some time learning from each other. It’s great to see the depot already being put to good use.

  • Decarbonising the energy system takes coordinated action across organisations. That’s why we brought together senior leaders from across our supply chain for an ESG forum focused on how we can collectively tackle emissions reduction across transmission projects – all the way from tendering through to delivery. Discussions centred on: • Improving consistency and credibility of emissions measurement • Enabling lower carbon design and materials without compromising safety or reliability • Understanding what drives supplier investment • Building capability across projects and the broader supply chain What stood out was the openness to share real, on-the-ground experience, reinforcing that progress comes through partnership, practicality and learning together. We thank our industry partners ACCIONA, Australian Constructors Association (ACA), Beca, ConnellGriffin, Consolidated Power Projects, Downer, Elecnor Australia, Enerven, GE Vernova, GenusPlus Group, Infrastructure NSW, Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC), Jacobs, Mott MacDonald, Prysmian, Supply Chain Sustainability School (AU), UGL, Ventia, Wilson Transformer Company, WSP, Zinfra, and ZTT Group for their openness and time. The insights shared will inform how we continue working together to support Australia’s clean energy transition.

  • As NSW transitions from coal to more solar, wind and battery storage, managing the grid is becoming more complex and increasingly weather-dependent. For our control room operators, that means managing significantly more system data, with notifications expected to grow from fewer than 1,000 per shift today to more than 2,500 by 2035. To stay ahead, Transgrid has applied to the Australian Energy Regulator to invest in new digital controls and smarter tools for our control room. These upgrades will improve situational awareness, helping operators identify critical issues faster and respond more efficiently. This will also provide consumers with greater access to the lower cost, zero emissions energy sources that we are rapidly connecting to the NSW grid. It’s about equipping our teams to keep the lights on as NSW moves towards a cleaner, more affordable energy future. Learn more: https://brnw.ch/21x2E52
