🌍 What is ecodesign and why does it matter for space? Space activities are growing fast. As the sector expands, so does the pressure on the environments where it operates, on Earth, in orbit and beyond. That’s where ecodesign comes in. Ecodesign means integrating environmental considerations from the very beginning of a mission’s design. Not as an afterthought, but as part of making smarter, more informed choices early on. As one of the key objectives of the ESA Green Agenda, systematic implementation of ecodesign approach and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology helps identify key Earth environmental impacts and mitigate them through appropriate technologies, materials and processes. The goal is to optimise the use of resources and reduce environmental impacts, while fully maintaining mission performance and quality. 🎥 Watch the video to see how ecodesign helps build space systems that perform better, last longer, and use resources more wisely. 🚀From London to Paris: New Signatories Accelerate Responsible Space Efforts 🌍 Five new entities signed the #StatementforaResponsibleSpaceSector in March 2026, highlighting the growing momentum behind this initiative for sustainable and responsible practices in the space industry. 👉 At Space-Comm London on 5 March, SaxaVord Spaceport, represented by Chief Operating Officer Debbie Strang; Bercella, with Davide Solaroli, Head of Sales and Business Development for Space; and Grayspace Policy and Regulatory Consulting, represented by Managing Director Sagar Singamsetty, all formalised their commitment. 👉 A few days later, during the ESA Future Space Transportation Spring Session 2026 on 9 March, EcoDeltaV Sàrl joined the Statement. The company was represented by its co-founders, Marnix Verkammen and Jan-Steffen Fischer, underlining their shared commitment to advancing responsible innovation in the sector. 👉 The momentum continued at Paris Space Week 2026 on 11 March, where Committee on Space Research - COSPAR was among the new signatories. The organisation was represented by its vice president, Catherine Cesarsky. 🚀 These new signatories reflect a diverse range of actors – from spaceports and engineering companies to policy consultancies and international organisations – all united in their support for a more responsible and sustainable space sector. Their engagement demonstrates the increasing recognition that collaboration and shared principles are essential to ensuring the long-term viability of space activities. 🛰️

Why should a niche and sovereign industry invest on sustainability and decarbonization? Yesterday at Paris Space Week we had a fantastic panel with Laurence Monnoyer-Smith from CNES, Andrea Vena from European Space Agency - ESA and Claire Elß from Cosmos for Humanity on sustainability and decarbonization in the #Space Industry. Thanks a lot to my fellow panelists for the great discussions on key issues like roadmaps, labels to support action and credibility, supplier onboarding and sector coordination. But also how #sustainability is a value protection & value creation driver for the Space Industry. At the end, it's all about #resilience, competitiveness, reputation ... and staying alive! Space Industry is moving, key success factors will be innovation, supply chain onboarding and sector coordination in implementation.
