This phone has specs that flagship phones like the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra or iPhone 17 Pro Max can never compare to, battery life is insane and the 185Hz screen is just another level of fluidity

swired, 03 May 2026Well somehow on my rog 9 , i can access data/obb folder freely through built-in file manager b... moreI did my actual test through Scene9 monitoring and used advanced mode to set both cpu and gpu frequency to max and to see if its drop or not and it doesn't dials down a little despite being at 47°c (probably because i set the thermal limit to 55°c) Both cpu and gpu bar at red color aswell. The cpu and gpu reach about 87°c above

In any way these feature aren't meant to be use for everyone though since there's also a section where i can set ddr speed too , idk if its refer to ddr ram speed or something (i set too low at the point phone freezes then i set too high the watt usage ramps to 10w despite underclocked both cpu and gpu). But useful for long term usage incase the software update suddenly crippled ur devices.

SkyFX, 25 Apr 2026Yes, you could underclock, but you couldn't overclock past SoC stock speeds. I don't... moreWell somehow on my rog 9 , i can access data/obb folder freely through built-in file manager but of course it get restricted on third party file manager unless bypassing thru shizuku method.

And regarding overclock u got it wrong , u can enable core scheduler for each performance and prime core and gpu idle timer to max. And it might not be close to pc level of performance customizations, keep in mind that this isn't possible without "root". Afaik , Realme phones has similar features too called Geek Power Tuning.

As for cooling , i dont use the aero cooler either (only use for listening music) since i still have my blackshark cooler 5 pro which 35w.

Price isn't my concern here since its not too expensive in my country , idk what makes it expensive to other countries probably tax I guess.

Its on the personal preferences honestly. I used to have redmagic 7s pro too and reason i want to try rog is due to dual usb port and background mode since for gamer who farms alot this attracted me. Cheers.

swired, 20 Apr 2026Asus also have kernel level performance configuration ya know? And its way more advanced than ... moreYes, you could underclock, but you couldn't overclock past SoC stock speeds. I don't see much value in underclocking since frequencies lower themselves dynamically on demand.
Calling it close to PC level BIOS is a far stretch, and not accurate, and I'm an old PC overclocker.

RedMagic let you lock everything to max, which is actually more beneficial (PC Emulation), especially with an internal fan. Slap a peltier on top and you can push some insane numbers.
The 130$ AeroActive Cooler 8 pulled only 7w, which was near useless, especially when you can find 15-20w coolers on AliExpress for 10-15$.

In the end of the day, Asus wasn't worth the double price over RedMagic for the same SoC, and the market recognized that.
Had they sold for a similar price as RedMagic, I think they could've still been here today, and be competitive. But with the same software support length, it wasn't worth 1500€. You can literally get a RedMagic AND a dedicated handheld PC for that price.

Regarding data/obb: it got restricted starting from Android 11, and tightened further in Android 13. This was the case for all OEMs, and pushed by Google/Android.

Saw a gaming test video of it enabled on the S24U where the battery went up to 45c with bypass enabled, high enough to start throttling.

This shouldn't be possible with true bypass charging like RedMagic/Nubia and Asus. The battery should be barely any higher than the room temperature, only the surrounding heat from the SoC - which is not enough to send the battery into 45c.

The battery % was also increasing during the test which further solidifies it's the fake kind (63% to 65%).

SkyFX, 23 Mar 2026Asus and RedMagic are the only phones with REAL bypass charging. The other Chinese OEMs fake ... moreAsus also have kernel level performance configuration ya know? And its way more advanced than redmagic since u literally can underclock cpu/gpu or overclock cpu/gpu respectively. There's even an option to increase ddr memory speed. Unlike redmagic which is only stuck on preset modes. On rog its basically almost close to pc bios level. And another thing i like about asus is they let user access data/obb folder without needing thirdpart app/adb. You can modify and copy/paste it.

Asus and RedMagic are the only phones with REAL bypass charging.
The other Chinese OEMs fake it by just charging to a user-set %, and still takes power from the battery - while more charges in to maintain that user-set %.

Really sad to see Asus go out. They should have lowered the prices when they saw what RedMagic put out for 500-800€ - with Diablo mode and all (no need for root to unlock the full performance).
Asus really had a feature rich OS, but no sane person will buy a phone for 1500€ with only 2 years of updates/uogrades.

Again Asus and their updates one per quarter. System apps reporting lots of errors, LE audio works sometimes, questions on Zentalk forums remains not readed. Seems Asus stopped not only hardware development, but software too.

The last double usb port phone. Nothing can replace it , i don't need dust collector that barely do nothing. Lenovo Legion & Asus ROG farewell 👑.
