I am really disappointed with this phone. To use almost all of its functions, it has to be unfolded.

Before purchasing the Galaxy Z Flip7, I expected that I would be able to use most of its functions while it was folded. Unfortunately, that has not been my experience.

Exynos is hated by everyone even on normal phones. Having it on a foldable is even worse.

Say what you want about having the Elite on the Razr, but at least you are getting a proper cpu on there. Use battery saver if it heats up a lot. The "4 gb more of memory" is kinda a moot point since we are talking about 12 vs 16 gb of ram here.

flipper, 04 Apr 2026can you answer the phone without opening it? I mean I wanna small phone and most of the time t... moreAs frosty said, yes you can answer call from the cover screen quite easily.

The only drawback I have encountered in receiving or making calls is that access to the call features like contacts/contact-details is more limited from the cover screen, so if you have extension numbers or notes about the person you are calling or receiving the call from in your contacts they won't be accessible from the cover screen during the call (update may change that).
There are workarounds, like leaving screen and manually going to contacts or S-note, but they are still more of a hassle than when open and it's just there.

It's likely a 1/100 use case situation, but if you need it (what was my note about this person/customer or what is the extension of this person I'm calling?) it's annoying, but once you get used to it you manage, like flipping over to S-Note app, etc during the call.

It's good to prepare your experience before you encounter frustration, but not every scenario can be anticipated, so you might encounter mild limitations now and then, just deal with them logically not emotionally.

The form factor has it's limits, but it is quite easy to adapt to them unless your use case lives at the boundaries.

You can also set so when open and you close it instead of ending the call it switches to loudspeaker.

I don't understand the point of having a phone so tall and narrow. 15 years ago a had clamshell phones, but half of the phones when opened was for the keyboard. Hopefully the Wide Fold will be better.

Anonymous, 04 Aug 2025Imagine someone paying 999 euros or 1100 dollars to buy a phone with an Exynos chip😆 Wait...Imagine paying even more for a Qc chip in a Razr and then Moto crippled it so you only got 70% of the performance you were promised and paid for so that that SD 8 Elite was outperformed by that eXynos chip you mock. At least with Samsung's own chip, and especially it being a one-of at the time, you weren't expecting it to perform like other elite phones unlike all the Razr reviews that promised that very thing..

Flip form factor will never do top-end power-hungry chips justice, at lease you know up-front it's not going to perform like a fan cooled giant candy-car phone with reviewers just parroting specs without actually testing performance. Look at GSM's own testing the Razr was barely the equal of the Flip 6 on an older chipset and 4GB less RAM, and couldn't finish tests as GSM's own review revealed: "it could never complete the GPU test because it overheats 3 minutes into it!" 🧐🫠

Imagine expecting full Qc Elite performance you were promised & most importantly PAID for, and getting that crippled Razr letdown. 🤣

Solun1, 03 Nov 2025Lately I've been kind of obsessed with the Flip and I think I'm going to upgrade to ... moreThe main drawback I've heard from candybar phone users for the last few generations (I've been recommending since Flip 3 as a former original Razr, Shine, Kyocera 7135 and BB Style user, and Note user since Gen1) is the 'hassle' of constantly opening and closing if you need to always be on your phone replying in full to emails etc.
For example salespeople who are churning through 50+ emails an hour midday, then it's inefficient and is more negative than positive, but if you are trying to declutter, and lessen you screen time, then it helps, and if you can do quick reads and quick replies then it's ideal. Same for Razr, about the form factor not the platform.
You can do long replies from the cover screen, but why? Use the small form factor for small form factor stuff. Otherwise it's pretty flexible (pun intended). I use another device for any time I need constant exchanges/monitoring, but adapted long ago.

Also a little time spent with preparation and customizing your setup to fit your needs is night and day different. Definitely add GoodLock MultiStar from first moments with a Flip, so you can then put pretty much anything on the cover screen.

One thing to be aware of this time of year and leading back to when you posted... when it is REALLY cold outside, like talking with the phone open on a lake or ski hill in -20 weather for 10+ minutes, getting the flexible plastic screen protector and inner flexible glass cold will almost assure that they will delaminate when you go to close it. This will happen over time as well and just requires a screen-protector swap (do in a few days so grit doesn't rub between layers [friend waited a month and developed scratches in the gap while waiting]).

Also, with the Flip8 hopefully it will be fully Qi2 with built in magnet, otherwise watch out if you add a magnetic case, the base is small on the flips/razrs so any looseness, so it quite often pulls the case off. Also top part bezels being small there is little grip on the screen half of the clam also, so be sure to get a good case an only trust it as far as you can throw it... or drop it.

Like so many things they work best for people who expect it to be a different experience than their traditional phone (similar advice for people switching from sedans to pickups or offroad vehicles) if you know in advance it won't be the same it sets expectations instead of just complaining about things that are simply limitations of the flip platform (cooling challenges, design space challenges, soft screens, etc).

I got mine last week, I was always hesitant to buy the fold devices cause I was scared of fragility, but that one youtube video from JerryRigEverything about this phone convinced me that this one was a good one to buy. And oh boy I love it so much! the only downside so far is the battery life.

Maybe with some optimization and tuning, it'll be a good chipset.

Here, in my country, Z Flips are becoming a fever. Those who never had one, don't understand why. After seeing my wife's 2 years of pleasure, I'm leaving my brick and just received my Z Flip 7.

Lately I've been kind of obsessed with the Flip and I think I'm going to upgrade to it from my Galaxy S24 Ultra. Originally I was thinking about the Fold8, but if it's not going to have the smart S-Pen, there isn't much of an incentive with the big screen, because I already have a fantastic tablet, so I use that as my big screen device. Are there any obstacles with the Flip7 (and therefore probably Flip8) that I should know about coming from the S24 Ultra?

Second is more complex use such as camera and app control, for example video call with screen sharing on top or just selfie video with full cam control. On top of this the face unlock when the phone is open requires the front facing camera. I'm sure there are other use cases to respond to your question but those are the ones I can think of at the top of my mind.

They should take away the hold punch selfie camera, and save the space for something else. With a 21:9 screen, it's perfect for movies, the only other phone to do that is Sony Xperia and that's looks great for movies without any punchouts.
