This review pretty much sums it up. And they haven't set their expectations too high it's just that all three downgraded from year or so ago - AI slop all 3 of them.
I agree about just taking an iPhone nowadays sadly.
"Pro" camera smartphones LOL
Yeah, stuff more super tiny sensors into a confined place, then try taking a photo in less than perfect lighting conditions, causing the camera software to crank up the gain to capture what light is available, which due to the signal to noise ratio (crosstalk) results in a photo with "speckles" all over the image, then the "AI" software will try to remove it resulting in a poor quality photo.
Yeah, if you need to snap a photo, a phone with a camera is handy, but if you are serious about taking photos, at the bare minimum, get a compact camera which will have a LARGER image sensor, each pixel sensor will be larger, and will have a better optical lens.
Unrelated but I would take the Oppo because it's the only one that doesn't have a reduced battery in Europe ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Livius, 11 Jan 2026Another expert in photography Or you're just poorly informed/ignorant.
Skin tones are horrid on all 3.
Weird artifacting in background of indoor Vespa picture.
Not an apple fan but iPhone really does point and shoot best.
You forgot to include iPhone 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro "Max" (even though you have both), I wonder if the competition is getting wider across brand
Rkm, 08 Jan 2026That can be done in Hasselblad master too. I was talking about the differences in each camera ... moreThat's true, and yes lens bokeh systems are unique. But when it comes to settings, master mode unfortunately disables HDR so doesn't really have the same usability. And other phones can do it in pro mode, but still vivo is the only one that does it with auto/default mode. Reducing sharpening is a must for any phone since it seems like OEMs have a fetish for oversharpening and denoise.
adsubzero, 08 Jan 2026I wouldn't say that Vivo's lens bokeh emulation is what makes a difference, it'... moreThat can be done in Hasselblad master too. I was talking about the differences in each camera app. The quality difference is negligible.
If you go into Bokeh styles in the Vivo camera app, you can choose the styles which replicate classic Zeiss lenses like Biotar, Planar, Sonnar etc. That is unique to them.
Rkm, 06 Jan 2026Would have been great if you compared what unique feature each of them offered SW wise. Image ... moreI wouldn't say that Vivo's lens bokeh emulation is what makes a difference, it's actually their processing and the unique ability to adjust the settings for auto camera mode.
Haikal, 06 Jan 2026Spoken like someone who's never used any of these phones. The Oppo and Vivo at leasr beat... moreWho mentioned Samsung and Apple? He's saying that GCam makes such a difference that even a mid range phone can beat a flagship with its stock camera. And he's absolutely right. The only ones who don't understand this are those who either never used it, or those who downloaded a random GCam mod without any config (or some shitty one) and gave up after seeing the result.
Anonymous, 07 Jan 2026The most surprising thing in this comparison is how Honor's lowlight 3.7x (85mm) and 7.4x... moreIt's absolutely not, Honor's processing is oily as always. The problem however is that sharpening is too strong on Vivo, which can be fixed by reducing the sharpening, which reviewers sadly never bother to do. It makes a world's difference. This is talking about native focal length, at 7x it does look kinda bad on Vivo. X300 Pro is a downgrade (processing wise) compared to X100U and X200U...
Livius, 08 Jan 2026I can't say if this is poor rage bait or a ๐คก. But I think bothBait? He's absolutely right.

janeymac, 06 Jan 2026In general they are all ok but Vivo's skin smoothing in pictures of people is too excessi... moreVivo has this problem for years. If Chinese people like to look 20 when they are actually 80, that's their problem but for global market they should take this out completely. It's very annoying to be honest.
Sandeep, 06 Jan 2026Please add some photos of the moon, if possible by turning off the AI enhancements.Yes this would be great. Camera AI adds fake moon these days doesnt it?
antykat, 06 Jan 2026So expensive phones, so good hardware and so bad photos ๐ Midrange phones with a GCam and good... moreWhy don't put your money where your mouth is? GCam is not the saviour anymore. When you say good settings I hope you realise that for every single scenario you have to come up with different settings and tweaks otherwise on a daily use it is not winning even against their stock cameras. The truth is that if pixel with their optimised cameras can't beat Vivo, Oppo, Honor or Xiaomi Ultra, GCam doesn't stand a chance either.
Daylight, main cameras, 1x: Honor Magic8 Pro โข Oppo Find X9 Pro โข vivo X300 Pro (same for lowlight to a lesser extent, one of the others is simple too bright a bit)
Vivo X300 Pro is the best here - watch expecially the helmet, the other two phones clipped into white, into the middle of the helmet. It's clearly visible. Also too bright, from exposure.
Again with this sample listed here:
Low light, telephoto cameras: vivo X300 Pro (7x) - 170mm, f/2.7, ISO 7873, 1/14s (4080x3072px)
Watch the X300 Pro, and then the Oppo/Honor. The relief on top looks more mushy, the light reflection pattern looks different onto the Vivo with ZEISS, in terms of the gradient. And one of them again is clipped, looks this way from the highlights. No comparsion again hereby.
If i'd need a new phone, i'd buy a Vivo with Zeiss lenses / processing algorithms, clearly, for sure. Shooting with Zeiss 35mm lenses since the early 90s...
