When we reviewed it at the beginning of the year, the Redmi Note 15 Pro 4G shipped with HyperOS 2 on top of Android 15. Due to the unforeseen delay of this review, the phone has already received an update to HyperOS 3.1 and Android 16, so our review draft was a bit outdated in this aspect, and this section is shorter than usual.
As far as the manufacturer's software update policy goes, Xiaomi has announced that the Redmi Note 15 series will receive 4 major OS updates and 6 years of security patches, which is in line with the most up-to-date software policy for the Redmi Note 15 family.
We have arguably arrived at the Achilles' heel of the Redmi Note 15 Pro 4G. The MediaTek Helio G200 Ultra is simply put underwhelming in terms of performance, no two ways about it. The G200 is essentially the G100, which in turn is essentially the G99, and none of these is impressive in any manner whatsoever.
Despite being a 2025 model, as we said, the G200 Ultra is essentially a rebranded entry-level chipset from 2022. While its 6nm TSMC manufacturing node is modern enough by current standards, the actual hardware here is pretty bad. The CPU setup consists of a retro two-plus-four core configuration, with two Cortex-A76 units, working at up to 2.2 GHz and another six Cortex-A55 units, clocked at up to 2.0 GHz. In case you were wondering, the Cortex-A55 was launched in 2017.
Things don't get better in the GPU department, where the G200 Ultra gets a slightly overclocked Mali-G57 MC2, working at up to 1.1 GHz. Again, a pretty aging part that was never meant to be impressive to begin with and one that has really started showing its cracks.
Credit where credit is due, the Helio G100 and G200 do introduce a slightly upgraded ISP that handles up to a 200MP single camera sensor, for what that's worth, since video capture is still capped at 1080p. Major disappointment there.
Actual benchmark results only put the disappointment into perspective. You are essentially getting the same lackluster performance as last year's Redmi Note 14 Pro 4G, and it's not like HyperOS has gotten any lighter in that time. The closest comparable chipset here is the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3, and it's not a shining beacon of performance either.
The global Redmi Note 15 Pro 4G model can be had in any of the following memory configurations: 256GB/8GB, 256GB/12GB and 512GB/12GB. All of the tiers include dual-channel LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage chips.
Looking at the 3DMark scores, the 100 MHz GPU clock bump is definitely there and doing something, but hardly enough. In practice, the Redmi Note 15 Pro 4G honestly feels slow and laggy even while doing basic tasks. And we can't imagine things will get any better with future HyperOS updates.
On a slightly more positive note, at least the Helio G200 Ultra isn't a hot-running chip. Not in the slightest. Any heat it does put out gets masterfully handled by the Redmi Note 15 Pro 4G cooling solution since the chipset practically doesn't throttle under load. Not even with torture testing.
The phone's surface hardly gets lukewarm to the touch as well, keeping things comfy. So, at least you won't be burning your hands as you struggle to play modern Android titles.
