Honor Android Announcement

The very first time we heard about the Honor Robot Phone was at the Magic8 series unveiling back in October of last year. Since then, we’ve seen countless leaks, teasers and we even got a sneak peek at an early prototype back at CES. Well, Honor finally took the wraps off the device today in China and we now have its full spec sheet as well as pricing and availability details.

The Robot Phone is a flagship Android smartphone with a gimbal camera attached to its back. The latter part is truly impressive, as Honor had to go through over 60 manufacturing processes while incorporating over 100 precision components.

The Robot Phone is supported by over 100 patents and features the industry’s smallest titanium gimbal system. Honor claims it is 65% smaller than traditional gimbals like the ones you’d see in DJI’s Osmo Pocket series, for example. In fact, Honor boasts the Robot Phone as having the industry’s smallest 4D gimbal system.

It features an ultralight 2.6g titanium gimbal motor which is just 6mm thin while the whole setup fits inside the phone’s 9.6mm profile. The phone is a bit heavier than you’d expect, though, at 248 grams.

The gimbal features a 1/1.28” camera sensor with 200MP resolution and an f/1.6 aperture. It supports up to 4K video recording and is paired with Honor’s H1 imaging chip, and you can also use voice commands to adjust the gimbal shooting settings, like telling it to turn around or focus on a specific point. It also leverages AI subject tracking with real-time auto-framing and tracking during vlogging, livestreaming and video calls.

But the gimbal on the Robot Phone is not just for recording vlogs. It's also a robot companion of sorts, brought to life via Honor's Yoyo AI assistant. It can observe and even interact with your surroundings and execute tasks on its own. Honor also implemented over 100 facial expressions like nodding, peeking and it can even dance to music.

The Robot Phone is the first device to launch in the partnership between Honor and legendary German-based cinema equipment brand Arri. As such, it gets native Log-C3 video encoding, LUT color grading, which is processed on the device and a dedicated cinema mode that replicates the look and feel of Arri cinema cameras.

Next to the gimbal camera, Honor Robot Phone features a 200 MP periscope telephoto lens (1/1.4”) with 2.7x optical zoom and a 50MP ultrawide lens, which also doubles as a macro camera.

Outside of the camera department, Honor Robot Phone features a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED screen with 2,640 x 1,216px resolution and a 1-120Hz variable refresh rate. Peak local brightness is rated at 6,800 nits, and Honor also applied its AR anti-reflective coating to help keep glare out.

Under the hood, the Robot Phone is equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. The software side is covered by MagicOS 10 based on Android 16. You also get a sizeable 7,060mAh Si-C battery with 120W wired and 50W wireless charging.

Honor Robot Phone will be available in Silver and Gray colors. The 12/512GB trim is priced at CNY 9,999 ($1,482), while the 16GB RAM and 1TB storage model will go for CNY 12,999 ($1,927).

Open sales in China are scheduled to begin on August 18. It remains to be seen if the device will be available in other regions, but odds are it will remain limited to its homeland.

It is quite annoying that companies can out right lie about the capacity of the batteries, but in the same time it's nice to think about that you still get way more battery than old lithium polymer cells and via reserved capacity , you can get p...

It's ridicolously overpriced, another eWaste product. Just because it has miniature basic gimbal, they think they invented some "robot" or something and charging inadequate prices, all these manufacturers are literally crooks.
