Infinix Android Featured Hands-on

Infinix's fashionable Hot 70 series just began its global journey, and we've got the inaugural device, the Hot 70, in the office and eager for an unboxing.

The Infinix Hot 70 ships with a nice case with a color-matching frame bumper, a 45W charger with a USB-A plug, USB-C earbuds, and the phone itself.

Ours is the Thermo Orange color, but there's also Green Texture, Quiet Violet, Dive Blue, Silver Dancer, and Night Pulse. The orange model has a neat trick up its sleeve heat-reactive rear panel - it gets darker when it's cold, and brighter when it's hot. More on that in a second.

Infinix's Hot phones usually impress with thin and light bodies, and the 70 follows that trend. It measures 7.5mm and weighs just under 200g. Impressively, it has an extra customizable button on the side and a 6,000mAh battery inside.

The buttons have excellent tactility and press firmly. The extra button stands out with its orange color and textured surface.

The Hot 70 feels very slim and refined in the hands. The nearly flush camera system is also refreshing in a world filled with bulging camera islands.

It's quite the task to persuade the thermo orange back to change its color. We had to confine the poor Hot 70 to a freezer for 20 minutes, in order to get it to show off its deeper hue. And while you'll need to get out of your way to achieve this, the benefit the color will stay that way until you heat up the phone to 65C, which won't occur unless you mean to do it.

So while the effect is harder to trigger than on some previous implementations it stays there until you want it. Better yet, if you are to achieve the heating by exposing the phone to the sun on a hot summer day you can add a cutout and create a pattern that makes the phone uniquely yours.

The 6.78-inch IPS LCD upfront gets decently bright and is fluid at 120Hz. However, the 720p resolution is stretched very thin on the nearly 7-inch canvas. You can see some graininess in small details like text. Some definite corner-cutting here. That's to be expected when you're vying for a more affordable price tag. Speaking of, we're still in the dark as to how much the Hot 70 will cost, sadly. But expect a competitive price nonetheless.
