Google Apple AI

Back in January, Apple confirmed that Google's Gemini AI models would be powering the next evolution of Apple Intelligence, which is expected to be unveiled this June at the annual Worldwide Developers Conference. This should include a completely revamped Siri, and will hopefully ship in iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 in the fall.

Google confirms: revamped Siri will be powered by Gemini

Now, Google has also confirmed that this is happening, on stage during the Cloud Next 2026 conference that's currently taking place in Las Vegas. Google Cloud chief Thomas Kurian said:

Earlier this year, we announced a monumental partnership with one of the most iconic brands that will bring the power of our technology to users everywhere around the world. We're collaborating with Apple as their preferred cloud provider to develop the next generation of Apple Foundation Models based on Gemini technology. These models will now power future Apple Intelligence features including a more personalized Siri coming later this year.

So it's pretty much set in stone now - Apple Intelligence will finally get smarter this year. The revamped Siri was initially expected to ship last year, then it got delayed to this spring, but Apple apparently ran into issues with accuracy. What remains unclear is whether the Gemini models Apple will use will run on Google's servers or will be using Apple's Private Cloud Compute instead. Of course, all of that should be clarified in early June, so stay tuned.

They renamed AI into "Apple Intelligence", yet they are gonna use Google like everyone else... I guess that should've been expected from Apple...
