Huawei Android Smart wearables Announcement

Huawei’s Watch Fit series just entered its fifth generation. Watch Fit 5 and Watch Fit 5 Pro were announced today at Huawei’s big launch event, which also saw the debut of the Pura X Max foldable, Pura 90 Pro series, as well as the Watch Buds 2 and Watch Ultimate Star Diamond Edition.

Both Watch Fit 5 members bring familiar-looking designs, though the Fit 5 Pro gets slimmer bezels, which allowed Huawei to fit a larger 1.92-inch AMOLED touchscreen this time around. The Pro features 2.5D sapphire glass and 3,000 nits peak local brightness.

The non-Pro Fit 5 gets a 1.82-inch AMOLED with 2,500 nits of brightness. Both versions still support Always-On Display (AOD) watch faces and come with two buttons – a digital crown and a shortcut button, both located on the right-hand side.

Both watches feature aluminum midframes, but the Watch Fit 5 Pro also gets a fancier titanium bezel.

The Watch Fit 5 generation gets updated 6 LED and 6 PPG optical heart rate modules as well as temperature sensors, though the Pro variant adds ECG and depth sensing capabilities. Both watches are rated at 5 ATM, so you can take them swimming, but only the Pro model is certified for freediving at up to 40m depths.

In terms of activity tracking, you get the usual mix of sports modes, alongside an updated cycling mode, which seems similar to the one offered on the Watch GT 6 Pro. You also get dual-band GNSS positioning on both versions sold in China, which feature NFC and Bluetooth 6.0 connectivity. Hopefully, all three will be carried over to the global models.

You still get an onboard microphone and speaker, and Huawei has also added a recorder so you can jot down meetings or ideas from your wrist.

In terms of battery endurance, Huawei claims you can expect a full week (7 days) with normal usage or up to 10 days with a lighter workflow. AOD mode should leave you with 4 days on each. Charging is done via the proprietary magnetic puck charger.

Huawei Watch Fit 5 comes in purple, green, white, black and silver colors. It’s priced at CNY 1,099 ($161).

Watch Fit 5 Pro comes in black, white and orange colors. It starts at CNY 2,199 ($322). Both watches will go on open sale in China from April 29. International availability was not detailed.
