Looks good. Big drawback... when will good cameras be added to phones with buttons??? The flashlight needs to be easy to turn on.

Well in some countries 2G remain the back bone of 112 comm, in Europe will never be decommissioned, only 3G and 4G are planed to be decommissioned before 2030

I seriously don't know why they don’t make one of these, with 5G, and with the ability to serve as a 5G hotspot. It would literally fly off the shelves worldwide.

albertchrstian, 25 Aug 2026What's the point of releasing a 2G only phone nowadays? At least make it 4GBecause to make a 2g is way way cheaper, but I agree with you that nowadays 2g is useles, because it's shut down in most countries

Not sure what is HMD thinking, most countries (excluding Africa) has already government mandate plans to retire 2G. But, if your looking this as a small (in battery capacity), yet large (for its battery capacity to body ratio) power bank + feature phone... One maybe can forgive xD

Most visitors to this site are not part of the intended markets for this kind of device. Imagine a place where you have 0 electricity at home for two days, then several hours of electricity, either using a generator or the public energy network, and then 1 or two days again with no power. Over and over again.

Way too much people live in those conditions and even the operators don't invest so much in their networks, so a user in such a market is having a phone that will outlast the next coming power outage is a relief, including a very bright torch will also REALLY help in very low light situations on their daily lives. Those users are not thinking about Spotify, WhatsApp, Netflix or whatever. They need to communicate, at least in a very simple way, have some light at home or when outside, plus having some tiny picture is heaven. Even some music on the SD card changes their complete way of living in such harsh conditions.

Millions and millions of people. I know that situation first hand. So this is a great solution for the right market. Surely not for us, not even as a 'backup' phone as suggested in the article.

Visually nice, but 2G only... that is beyond stupid for use in 2026. 2G is phasing out already.

For anybody who buys this phone with plans to travel to the United States leave this phone behind. There's are no 2G networks anymore in the US as the last provider T-Mobile has finally shutdown there 2G network on August 3rd this year marking the end to any 2G coverage remaining in the US.
