Ok... Just make it with 5G and strong wi-fi for hotspot.
Looks good. Big drawback... when will good cameras be added to phones with buttons??? The flashlight needs to be easy to turn on.
Seriously which countries still have wide coverage of 2G nowadays?
Well in some countries 2G remain the back bone of 112 comm, in Europe will never be decommissioned, only 3G and 4G are planed to be decommissioned before 2030
How much
I seriously don't know why they don’t make one of these, with 5G, and with the ability to serve as a 5G hotspot. It would literally fly off the shelves worldwide.
seriously 2g has been clarified as dead in my country .
so are we dead yet ?
albertchrstian, 25 Aug 2026What's the point of releasing a 2G only phone nowadays? At least make it 4GBecause to make a 2g is way way cheaper, but I agree with you that nowadays 2g is useles, because it's shut down in most countries
I have tried to reach hmd to buy phones but they never respond to any email.
albertchrstian, 25 Aug 2026What's the point of releasing a 2G only phone nowadays? At least make it 4GWord... Not sure what is HMD thinking, most countries (excluding Africa) has already government mandate plans to retire 2G. But, if your looking this as a small (in battery capacity), yet large (for its battery capacity to body ratio) power bank + feature phone... One maybe can forgive xD
Bring back the slide 8800 series with 4G capability at least or 5G even better. Where is your R&D team???
Great phone great price and massive endurance rating for just 40 bucks i really like it.
Most visitors to this site are not part of the intended markets for this kind of device. Imagine a place where you have 0 electricity at home for two days, then several hours of electricity, either using a generator or the public energy network, and then 1 or two days again with no power. Over and over again.
Way too much people live in those conditions and even the operators don't invest so much in their networks, so a user in such a market is having a phone that will outlast the next coming power outage is a relief, including a very bright torch will also REALLY help in very low light situations on their daily lives. Those users are not thinking about Spotify, WhatsApp, Netflix or whatever. They need to communicate, at least in a very simple way, have some light at home or when outside, plus having some tiny picture is heaven. Even some music on the SD card changes their complete way of living in such harsh conditions.
Millions and millions of people. I know that situation first hand. So this is a great solution for the right market. Surely not for us, not even as a 'backup' phone as suggested in the article.
Groot, 24 Aug 2026I like the sand color one but 4G is needed to sell it in more countries4G I'm buying it, loved Nokia
Visually nice, but 2G only... that is beyond stupid for use in 2026. 2G is phasing out already.
Peter-B, 24 Aug 2026Not quite like the Qin phones, but HMD is supposedly working on an Android Go flip phone: h... moreLooks interesting, I'm waiting for that one 🤞
For anybody who buys this phone with plans to travel to the United States leave this phone behind. There's are no 2G networks anymore in the US as the last provider T-Mobile has finally shutdown there 2G network on August 3rd this year marking the end to any 2G coverage remaining in the US.
