If Pro models are getting OLED, then I hope Air will get mini LED soon after

I specifically bought an IPS LCD laptop which has a gorgeous 3.2K 100% DCI-P3 display without any of the negatives of OLED. Micro LED is indeed the future, all the flagship TV's for example are moving away from OLED like the expensive Bravia models.
OLED but it will never have touchscreen. Touchscreen laptops that aren't convertibles are terrible and even Steve Jobs famously pointed that out on stage at an Apple event.

get your facts straight
bardacol, 23 Jul 2026Will they get rid of the ugly notch? It will turn into a dynamic island-like thing.
I don't even want OLED, would rather have bright mini-LED and eventually micro-LED. I can't stand PWM flickering on laptops, nor do I want burn-in risk.
Finally. Their displays may LOOK good; but this is as bad as the Xbox Ally not having an OLED screen yet still costing around $6-700. Macbooks besides maybe the Neo should have had OLED displays long ago.
It's a bit of a shame that the MacBook Ultra is probably just going to be a fancier MacBook Pro with a touchscreen because it would be pretty cool to see the M5 Ultra in one of these. Definitely wouldn't be a huge market for it, but given the somewhat existent PC luggable market for professional workstations (and gaming of course but for how much it would cost marketing it for work that genuinely needs that much power is probably a smarter play) there would be some market for it, and it's probably more usable when not rendering flow simulations too.

$6000 macbooks are just what everyone needed.
Smart move on Apple's part. You can't beat OLED performance for the human eye. I hope LG and Samsung continue producing and advancing the technology for years to come—unless, of course, something better is produced.
They move onto OLED just now because it has gotten dirt cheap.
Even the lowest end chinese device can probably pack an OLED display.
Now, they will wait until microled comes down in price and move over onto that in 2040 probably.
Burn-in will be a given on MacOS, more so than on Windows.

Apple finally invented touchscreen laptops. would love to see their name for this truly unique and novel invention.
