Motorola could add a statement to its policy. It is something like "if deviation related to number of OS update found, the longer updates will be applied". So if similar issue persist, no need special clarification is made. Now the case is closed as they have made clarification against the issue. And thanks to the one who noticed this issue.
It makes me appreciate what Xiaomi has done related to a commitment for the OS update when they are recently confident to provide more updates for their devices. 4 to 5 OS updates. This is not an easy step to take by comparing to what Motorola does for their devices. While Samsung and Google Pixel have got used to it, they should be careful with the progress from competitor before it turn into real threat in the future. Btw, what is the cost for one update? When I see Samsung commit for 6 updates for Galaxy A07 4G, it looks like the cost isn't high. About an update can bring a device performance down, I am still skeptical because we call it an update not otherwise, right?.
Deceptive marketing statements are now agreed between Legal and Marketing before shared to public... "Sounds like" which is good for consumer and "As per written" to protect them from legal consequences..

As GsmArena pointed out, that 'up to' is an issue. though I'd go a step further by pointing Motorola could not update the device at all, OS or security, and still not technically violate that 'promise'. Also, for what it's worth, I don't see the word promise in the statement anyway π€·ββοΈ
So basically, what all this amounts to business as usual for Motorola's software support model. They will update devices, as, when, and if they choose to π€·ββοΈ
Anonymous, 18 Jul 20262 OS updates and 3y security is "up to" 3 OS and "up to" 5y security so no... moreIt means 5 years. If it says 5 years, some people will ask if it will get 6, 7, 8, etc years of updates because a device that get 5 years of updates can also get 7 years of updates.

Today, the majority of users do their online shopping and banking on their smartphones, and no one in their right mind wants to do that on an unsecure phone. Motorola would greatly improve its reputation by offering a clear guarantee of 5 years of fast security updates across all its models. In North America, the Edge 2026 only gets 3 years of security updates for a price of 600 dollars.β οΈ
This is not new they did the same thing with the Motorola One 5G US variant. All Motorola Ones were supposed to get 2 years of OS updates, it was like a major selling point for the line. But instead of doing that for the US variant they just rebranded it as the Moto G 5G Power and told the customers they were SOL. This in spite of the fact that the regulatory label specifically lists it as a Motorola One 5G.
Not surprising. Oh well, I already crossed Motorola off my list anyway after the URL redirection scandal. So whatever.
Let those fools keep giving Lenovo money.
I think that, 3 years of Android OS upgrades and 5 years of security updates is more than enough for a device
2 OS updates and 3y security is "up to" 3 OS and "up to" 5y security so no clarification
... because not issuing cost money

Why do anyone want more updates especially when phone companies are destroying cameras with software updates and slow down your phone is beyond me. Moreover, these Android updates hardly brings anything new.
7yrs of software update policy it fine if you're charging 100$ more for software support. Give user what they want.
Dzong, 17 Jul 2026I expected them to increase the amount of total updates to compensate but I guess this is bett... moreEveryone should at least prolong their software updates with the current state of the consumer market.
All of them still had the gall to keep releasing stuff every other month while they're getting hit on dtam and nand prices.
AngryLithuanian, 17 Jul 2026Lol bullied a company to correct themselves about a typo, well done keyboard warriors ππI hate typos and spot them immediately (my brain picks it up automatically). So, full support from me on this matter to GSMArena!
This is just pathetic man
