I am still convinced it's a gimmick, glad if you find it useful

SigmaR, 25 Jun 2026Not really the same, there is a size difference. Variable aperture still useless After trying variable aperture on Huawei phones, I never find it useless. If anything, it's super useful on getting the subject in focus without the excessive blurring, especially when capturing documents.

GSMArena just please start to provide on your web page in "dimensions" devices thickness in the thickest point, not in the slimmest one.

A whole +2mm of thickness because of useless variable aperture? This is insanity.

SigmaR, 23 Jun 2026Useless on a such tiny camera, a bigger sensor would make the difference, not this crapSeriously they should all target 1 inch type, or actual 1 inch because this is the most this tiny body can get, anything less and those tiny sensors are starting for light. Even one inch type is not good, ut at least with some computational photography tricks can look semi decent. Apple overstayed on tiny sensors and nobdy knows why. Anything below 1:1.25 inch sensor size is low end and should not be included in flagship, yet apple was selling low end parts to their customers for years, hoping that computational photography would do the trick (and then night would fall and all your tricks go to sh1t). Phones are still remarkably behind *mkdern* digital cameras that are decent and they don't *have to* be, it is a choice mostly taken from Samsung and Apple to keep this space saddled for 5 years.

The chinese already moved on, but they lack the software chops of the american / american pushed companies. I always dream of a combination (Chinese cameras, american computational pohtography). Maybe iPhone 18 would finally have a decent sensor size.

That’s why I’m eagerly awaiting the “Ultra” flagship series phones from Chinese companies, which will be the knockout blow to Apple. You’ll hear the same sentiment from photography experts—not from someone who just wants to boost their status in front of others with a ridiculous phone.
