User935, 25 Apr 2026No, they don't. I don't care what's old-fashioned, the side-mounted fingerprint... moreAbsolutely not. Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor have improved a lot compared to 5 years ago. They're very fast and accurate and it's so much mire convenient to unlock your phone when it's on a stand or a table.
Side mounted ones are physically smaller than under(display ones, therefore there are mispresses.

Even after what feels like a decade, things haven't changed.
I wonder who keeps them on the payroll, since their phone presence in the market has been reduced to near extinction.

Have you ever explored the option to have the entire bar filled black to hide the punch hole?

Sony's own processing is garbage at best.
Wouldn't use it, even if offered for free.
Defective screen from factory? Lol you are just making things up to get upvotes from Sony fans
Anonymous, 25 Apr 2026... and some others compensated for something else too with Xperias' extraordinary height... moreDoubt it, but maybe. 🤷♂️ I don't care about the height, can be useful for some things, what makes a phone compact or not is the width, i.e. how usable is it one-handed.
More width has much more negatives in real life than more height.
Any idea if the screen is actually going to improve this time? A 1080p main screen in a 1600€ phone is a joke no matter how you want to cut it.

I still wishe... moreDon't get me wrong I also vastly prefer the ultrasonic fingerprint to the side mounted one (I've used both, the ZF10's one really never worked right compared to my RM11 Pro) but you'll find a lot of people having the opposite experience, and I can at least understand if Sony wants to be the ONLY high end option to go that route.

Is it "Xiaomi phone burning their own chips" subpar, "iphone cracking glass, fading paint work and defective screen" subpar, or "Samsung green lightsaber screen and pregnant battery" subpar? You gotta be specific here lil bro.
Just like iPhone and Samsung they go with their own specific design. Some may face disappoinment with it whereas others feel entertained. The obvious part which might invite some to dislike I can honestly say is the front screen with the thick bezel although we know it is made to hide the camera cut out while the bottom bezel is made to maintain symmetrical with the one on the top. Now let's talk about the rear design. I feel a kind of magnet there when I see the island design of the rear camera. It is good for me. However, the flash is not correctly placed in my opinion. Too close to the cameras that were mounted in each side, right and left. Overall the design wouldn't be an issue that would prevent people to own this device made by Sony. It's totally subjective. The true issue may lay on hardwares configuration later when most people will have high expectation on this area and the price that would guarantee good sales when this model made its availability on store.

I unfortunately have to use both every day 'cause of work phone with an in-display one.
The Sony logo should be placed under the camera box so it would be more perfect

Had zero issues with Sony (Ericsson) phones in the past (T300, K800, those were amazing cameraphones ❤️, not the AI slop generators we have today 😄), same with anyone I knew with any Sony phone, have zero issues with the 1 III nearing 5 years of age, wife with her 5 IV nearing 4 equally so. 🤷♂️
"Right now VII had better be substantially cheaper than all high-end phones sold by other companies because it's effectively a generation behind now."
One of the few phones that lets me listen to music from my Hi-Fi headphones and store a shload of photos from my camera. And have them on my next phone the second I boot it for the first time, so seems way more advanced than the competition stuck over two decades in the past to me. 🤷♂️
Anonymous, 25 Apr 2026Why can't they put camera in the middle? Why at a corner? Probably so you can support the back of the phone with your middle finger when taking a photo/video in landscape orientation.
Remember the great Xperia Z2, the Xperia X premium, the Xperia 1 III... What the hell is this sony?
Too bad they stepped away from the 21:9 aspect ratio
finally the boss approved the design proposed from 5 years ago, so they can use it now ... LOL

Watch them raise their price like everyone else for the upcoming VIII. Right now VII had better be substantially cheaper than all high-end phones sold by other companies because it's effectively a generation behind now.
