So maybe they fixed the bug, but I twice tried the iOS [iPhone 6S] to Android 15 move and IT DID NOT WORK.
This was enough for one of my student who was about to jump ship from OLD OLD iphone to modern Android 15 smartphone to suddenly find the substantial extra cash to buy a newer iPhone. That is how important WhatsApp message history is to some people !!

Wait, the chat transfer feature is a big deal. Previously they require Android 12 or later. Now they say all you need is Android 10 or later. This just opens up a whole lot of users and older device options. Me likey.

jinxthesloth, 27 Mar 2026In US, iMessage is dominant. In rest of the world, it's Whatsapp.iMessage is dominant in countries where unlimited SMS was the norm. US is one of them. Part of it is because Apple integrated iMessage into the regular SMS app.
In other countries where SMS was charged on per use basis, IP based messaging services like Whatsapp, Line, etc got popular first and solved that problem for users before iMessage even existed. Thus in those countries, iMessage never become mainstream as nobody was using the regular SMS app anymore.

But it is easy to transfer from Android to iOS than the other way around. I did it 2 times but it takes a lot of time and the iphone must be at initial setup.

Finally easy Whatsapp message transfer. I hate when moving from Android to iOS or vice versa. Whatsapp is the only apps that need to do some workaround just to transfer.
