The idea is to make as many people buy the more expensive product even if they don't need or want it, so not giving them choice is the strategy here.

If I were Apple, I'd develop the iPhone 18e alongside the iPhone 18 Pro/Pro Max. It'll give people the chance to either grab either the most expensive or the cheapest model away, or wait for the vanilla iPhone 18 as the best balance some time later.
