Wish MediaTek could make a better 4G chipset with 4xA76 and 4xG57 cores on 6nm and call it Helio G101
I think MTK sells exclusivity deals to one or two OEMs for about six months. During that time, OEMs get the chips at a lower price with no competition to worry about, which lets them sell more units.
The 8450/xx50 naming is probably just a way to bypass those deals, or something agreed on earlier with the 8300/8400.
Just look at how cheap they made the X6 Pro and X7 Pro despite their huge performance and features, compared to the Snapdragon 8S series that rivals them but usually costs at least 100€ more.
It doesn’t make sense to build a SoC like this for under 300€ and not see several OEMs jump on it.
Whatever the reason, the 8300/8350 and 8400/8450 are the exact same SoC.
Don’t buy into the “StarSpeed engine” MTK marketing, there’s something else going on here. Why wasn't this engine in the 8400 when that engine was available since the 8350, which was the only change over the 8300 again - that this is the 2nd time they've repeated this star engine fluff.
Strange it's always something that can't be verified as a meaningful upgrade - and that doesn't reflect a difference in the benchmarks.
I think exclusivity deals are the key word here.
Week, 22 Jun 2025Didn’t D8400 have 8x A720? Why is this article saying 1x X4 and 4x A520?It is 8xA725 as I know
Jujujij, 22 Jun 20251x cortex x4? Is this a joke or what? That information is incorrect.
"Lastly, the Dimensity 8450's 5G modem gets a new power-saving feature, UltraSave 3.0+, to reduce energy consumption"
It's not true! Dimensity 8400 have this feature too.
Jujujij, 22 Jun 20251x cortex x4? Is this a joke or what? How is this a joke? Would you rather have A720s only?

Rolly Ghiz, 21 Jun 2025Could be a typo on Gsmarena's partYeah, It's a typo.
Just like their dimensity8350...no additional clockspeed on Cpu and Gpu itself just probably adding a single software engine for slightly Battery efficiency overall its too dumb and doesn't make any sense id call this 8400plus version
Processor
1x Arm Cortex-A725, 1MB L2
3x Arm Cortex-A725, 512KB L2

According to mediatek website

All the 8 cores are Cortex A725.
Didn’t D8400 have 8x A720? Why is this article saying 1x X4 and 4x A520?
The spec is totally wrong.
Gimmick from Mediatek.

Odd that it's announced this late considering it's already used in the reno 14 pro which came out few weeks ago.
