I did test out the vi in a store that sells refurbished ones and the 1080p screen (396ppi) is clearly noticeable next to the 1 iii (653ppi) heck my old S9+ had a better display than that phone. Sony needs to step up the game, maybe not the almost 4k of the 1V but at-least match the others with 1440p.

Even the 500 ppi that I'm accustomed to is not the same that the 570 or even 577 (Remember S8 & S7 ?) that we had in the past, even the 440 ish from the S4 seemed good, but ~400 isn't enough for me too, I had them with Mi 9T Pro from Xiaomi and that was one of the 9 thing that had me sold it, along with the lack of external memory.
I miss his pop up camera, the device was great for the price. Great times. I miss them, now it's greed everywhere.
It's not a case of greed here but come on sony, you could do better. FHD screen on a 1500 device, SERIOUSLY ? I was gonna switch to you but I guess not, the screen is the main use of the phone, I look at it everytime, for me it's as important as the camera/video features. But not really for selfie cam and I was glad to seen a whole screen without cutout. Guess perhaps a Mark4 with the 4K screen but software support is gonna be poor so even discounted it's a 'Meh' purchase. Glad to seen the camera upgraded, guess I'll keep my S23 U anther year witout update since Scamsung nerfed the quality over the update :)

Bravosixgoingdark, 15 May 2025the difference between QHD and FHD is noticeable on a 6.5" screen plus a 1080p screen at ... moreThere was a test conducted on which most people concluded that their eyes can see differences upto as high as 900 dpi or so (on GSMArena). Now, we're way below it now even for 2K/ 4K, so yes, difference will surely be noticeable for a lot of time...
GPU performance does matter when you start playing games like PUBG, COD, etc and that's when it will throttle early, if it has 4K display. For years, everyone knew 4k was an overkill.
I've always believed, bad framerate & battery is much more noticeable and irritating, than the lower resolution we're referring to.
A $1500 product shouldn't lag, should it? 1260p or 2k is also tolerable somewhat, but 4K kills performance and battery, even the 1680p they were carrying.
You can see the difference when directly compared, but most people may not notice in isolation.

Go with budget friendlier phone and use the rest of money for something else better

One rises, sets, then the other takes over.
Anonymous, 15 May 2025Sad to see Sony succumbing to it.All companies have succumbed to it. because phone cameras have peaked, there is nowhere else to go physically without increasing the physical size of the phone itself. The most these companies can do is fiddle with the color science, and mess with AI.
Phone cameras today are about the same as two years ago, the only difference is that they messed with different outputs to placebo the consumers brain that the expensive device they bought is "better"

Sam N8 808 owner, 15 May 2025I don't think so.. 1080p may not be the best, but it is sufficient. (Except when taking s... morethe difference between QHD and FHD is noticeable on a 6.5" screen plus a 1080p screen at that price is unacceptable since the rest of the flagships all have sharper displays (2k or QHD+) heck even the midrange 10 vi has a sharper one. Sony can't be asking $1500 for a "just enough" display.
GPU performance and display doesn't really matter here since the GPU on both the VI and VII already throttle heavily it's just that they don't have good cooling. the last Sony phone to top performance charts of it's time was the XZ premium which ironically holds the record for sharpest phone display ever with an actual 4K one not the cropped 1644p of the 1 series
Bravosixgoingdark, 15 May 2025fr that and the screen resolution was the sour part.I don't think so.. 1080p may not be the best, but it is sufficient. (Except when taking screenshots)
Bigger reason is also that, pushing more pixels on a high res screen, the GPU gets more stressed, games start giving lesser fps, performance and fluidity may go down sometimes.
When Sony 200mp lens coming out ?
AntonelPAPI, 14 May 2025Why don't they partner with Ericzon and release some classics from the Walkman series or ... moreSony bought the Ericsson phone department, Sony needs a new management at this point they are near sighted to say the least. they literally have all the tools to make the best smartphone in the industry (BRAVIA,Walkman,PS,Alpha) yet for some stupid reason they don't.. they aren't the company they used to be 20yrs ago anymore. it's disappointing that this is the only phone maker still putting a full hardware package on a flagship yet themselves fail to see their potential.
DarlingYext, 14 May 2025Great main camera, great ultrawide, shame on that telephoto.fr that and the screen resolution was the sour part.
AntonelPAPI, 14 May 2025Why don't they partner with Ericzon and release some classics from the Walkman series or ... moreThat's what I was thinking too, why don't they update the old Xperia, for example the Xperia Arc, they put an OLED screen, thin screen borders, new sensors, with its rounded design it will really be something different, especially with an affordable price.
AntonelPAPI, 14 May 2025Why don't they partner with Ericzon and release some classics from the Walkman series or ... moreEricsson
All of them don't feature/avoid featuring the telephoto being the same as last year, could really use a telephoto upgrade, sensor size or focal length, both upgraded is the most ideal.
Why don't they partner with Ericzon and release some classics from the Walkman series or the XZ series? Sometimes nostalgia sells, but they're Japanese, undoubtedly very intelligent and hard-working, but stingy, miserable, miserable, and, above all, boring. I watched the presentation for four minutes and it made me sleepy.
