Infinix Note Edge review

Introduction

Infinix might not be a household name everywhere, but the Chinese brand has already gained quite a bit of popularity in certain markets. As one of Transsion's phone brands, along with Tecno and itel, Infinix has a major market presence in many African countries, as well as Southeast Asia and South Asia. Interestingly, you can also find Infinix devices in some European countries as well, like France, Poland, the Czech Republic and Romania. So we were curious to learn more about its latest device - the Infinix Note Edge.

The company actually made quite a campaign about the Note Edge. We first saw the Note Edge in a head-turning bright orange color. Unfortunately, that color is absent from the final official lineup. Still, the Lunar Titanium, Silk Green, Stellar Blue, and Shadow Black that are available look quite interesting in their own right.

In keeping with Infinix's usual MO, the Note Edge is a budget device with a starting price of $200. Even so, Infinix did the best it could to deliver good value. It's frankly impressive how few compromises modern budget phones actually have to make to hit their price point.

The Note Edge is an IP65-certified device with Corning Gorilla Glass 7i on top of its display. Speaking of said display, it is a rather aggressively curved 6.78-inch panel with a high 1208 x 2644 pixel resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, very high advertised brightness of up to 4,500 nits and AMOLED innards. There is a 6,500 mAh battery or a 6,150 mAh battery (the capacity is market-dependent) on board with 45W charging support. You also get JBL-tuned stereo speakers.

Other highlights include the pretty new MediaTek Dimensity 7100 chipset, 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of non-expandable storage, plus a promise for three major OS updates and five years of security patches.

The camera setup isn't anything to phone home about, but the 50MP main camera still has enough potential on paper to deliver good shots. There are some other interesting bits and pieces here and there, all of which add value, like an FM radio receiver, an IR blaster and NFC.

Unboxing

The Infinix Note Edge ships in a very sturdy two-piece and two-tone cardboard box. As mentioned, it is very thick cardboard, more than plenty to keep the phone safe. You also get a cradle for the phone itself on the inside, which is good for added shipping protection, but we don't quite appreciate that it is made of plastic.

The accessory package is very rich by today's standards. Well, perhaps not in the EU, where regulations prevent Infinix from including a charger in the box. You should get one in most other markets, though.

Inside the box, there is a 45W Infinix-branded charger with a USB Type-A interface. The charger is proprietary, and so is the USB Type-A to Type-C cable included in the box. You need to keep track of both to charge at full speed. Beyond that, you also get a very nice soft TPU case in the box and a glass screen protector, so you can start using your shiny new phone right away.
