Your subject matter expert has the knowledge. Your L&D team has the skill. The problem is the process sitting between them. SME availability is one of the biggest blockers in course development. The process often involves lengthy interview schedules, back-and-forth email chains, document reviews that sit in someone's inbox for two weeks. By the time the knowledge is extracted, a month has passed before development even begins. The fix isn't asking SMEs to be more available. It's changing how knowledge moves from expert to course. Instead of lengthy interview cycles, try this: - Have SMEs record short, informal walkthroughs of their process - Use structured input templates they can complete in their own time - Let them review AI-assisted drafts built from a brief they've already provided The goal is shifting from sequential handoffs to parallel workflows. Instead of waiting for each other, your SME and your L&D team are working at the same time. The fastest way to speed up course development? Change how knowledge moves from expert to course.

Your training programme worked perfectly last quarter. That's the problem. Business environments don't stand still. Products change. Processes shift. Compliance requirements evolve. But the courses built around them often don't. A course that was relevant six months ago may already be losing its edge. Even if it was designed well, it was designed for a moment that has passed. The fix isn't simply building faster, but building so that your content can adapt. Two things make this possible: - Modular design, which lets you update individual components without rebuilding entire programmes - Adaptive pathways, which tailor learning to what each person actually needs We wrote about both in detail, including practical steps for getting started: https://zurl.co/I7qOD

Over the past six weeks I've been asking UK L&D teams some honest questions about how they approach eLearning development. 📊 The results have been striking. 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗳 of you said eLearning content creation is eating 𝟮𝟱% 𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 of your L&D budget - 𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘵'𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘭. 𝟳𝟱% 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗮𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻-𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 when a new training need lands. And finding experienced Articulate Storyline developers in the #UK? A 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 said 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵 or outright 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦. Then, two weeks ago, I asked which region you'd consider first for outsourcing. 𝟮𝟯% 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗻'𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗞 𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗹. #SouthAfrica wasn't even on the list. That's exactly the point of this series. South Africa has a thriving, English-language L&D community. Compatible working hours with the UK. A deep pool of 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲-𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁. And production costs that would genuinely surprise most UK L&D teams. New Leaf Technologies are based there. We're the only authorised Articulate reseller on the African continent, we host one of Africa's biggest L&D conferences, and our client list includes Nissan Motor Corporation, ICON plc, Coca-Cola Beverages Africa, and St John Ambulance. If you've been following this series and thinking "𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘩 𝘢 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯" - it probably is. #eLearning #LDStrategy #NewLeafTechnologies #eLearningOutsourcing #LearningAndDevelopment #UKLeaders #CIPD #Articulate

Today is Africa Day. It’s a day to reflect on where this continent has been, and where it's going. Africa has extraordinary potential: a young, growing population, expanding economies, and a deep hunger for development and opportunity. But access to quality learning is still unevenly distributed. Not every worker has the same opportunity to develop their skills. Not every organisation has the infrastructure to invest in their people the way they'd like to. That gap matters. When people can't access learning, the distance between potential and opportunity stays wide. Building learning infrastructure that's accessible, relevant, and built for African contexts is part of how that changes. As a South African company, this is close to the work we do every day. And it's a responsibility we don't take lightly. Happy Africa Day. 🌍

Nobody grows up saying "I want to work in L&D." And yet, here you are, doing some of the most important work in the building! You were probably a teacher, a trainer, or an HR generalist who got pulled into learning design because you were good at explaining things. Now you're managing tech stacks, negotiating with vendors, building business cases, and trying to prove ROI to a board that may not even know what L&D stands for. You didn't plan this career. But the work found you because you're the kind of person who cares whether other people have what they need to succeed. That matters more than a job title ever will. Happy Friday to the accidental L&D professionals. The organisations you work for are better because of you. 🌿

Agri Skills Transfer needed to train 500+ commercial farmers after a sudden legislative change. Their old platform couldn't keep up. The agriculture sector moves fast. When new regulations for Pest Control Operators landed, Agri Skills needed to respond immediately. But their existing system was fragile, built by developers who didn't understand the operational flow, and too rigid to pivot quickly. They were looking for a partner who understood their world. New Leaf delivered the aNewSpring platform and worked alongside Agri Skills to build a learning ecosystem that gave them full autonomy over their own content. No more waiting on external developers. No more delays when the market shifts. The results spoke for themselves: - 500+ farmers trained in record time - High-value training products selling online for the first time - A platform that became a core business resource, not just another external tool As Shaun Welmans, COO of Agri Skills Transfer, put it: "I don't regard New Leaf as a client. I've regarded them as part of the family." That's the difference between a vendor and a partner! Watch the full video now below:

Adaptive learning doesn't mean slapping the learner's name on a welcome screen. At the moment, adaptive learning is one of the most talked-about ideas in L&D. Most organisations say they want it. But what gets called "adaptive" is often just superficial. These courses look like the same linear path for everyone, dressed up with a personalised greeting. That's not adaptive. That's just one road with different signs. Real adaptive learning adjusts pathways based on what a learner already knows, how they perform, and what they still need to develop. It skips what's redundant. It focuses on genuine gaps. Platforms like aNewSpring make this possible at scale by building personalised journeys grounded in learner activity and performance data. If every learner in your organisation is going through the same journey regardless of experience, it might be time to rethink what "personalised" actually means.

Jonathan Hill, Assoc CIPD is asking the tough questions today. Outsourcing eLearning content is a big step and it's completely normal to have reservations about outsourcing content. When looking at offshore eLearning development, worries about time zones, quality and creative control are always at the top of the list. But outsourcing to South Africa could be the solution to those problems, not the cause. We share your time zone, we speak your language and our experienced developers are passionate about hitting the mark on quality, with no hidden costs. Which of these four worries keeps you up at night? Vote in Jonathan's poll and let us know 👇
Last week's poll got some great responses - and a few honest DMs that all said roughly the same thing: "South Africa sounds interesting, but..." 🤔 So let's have that conversation openly. #eLearningOutsourcing #LearningDesign #LnDLeaders #CIPD #UKLnD #LearningAndDevelopmentUK #EdTechUK #UKLeaders

Five weeks in, and this poll gave me the most interesting result yet. 23% of you hadn't thought beyond the UK at all when it comes to outsourcing eLearning and 38% went straight to a UK agency - which is understandable, but probably the most expensive option on the list. Nobody picked South Africa. It wasn't even on the list. That's exactly the point of this series. New Leaf Technologies are based in Johannesburg. English-language, Articulate-certified, and trusted by global brands including Nissan Motor Corporation, ICON plc, and Coca-Cola Beverages Africa. They work with UK clients and offer a level of quality and responsiveness that tends to surprise people who've only ever worked with UK agencies. If South Africa wasn't on your radar before, it might be time to change that!
