99% of organisations are now comfortable with cloud - but security, compliance and trust continue to shape how far and how fast that adoption really goes. To delve more on this insightful topic, Brainstorm South Africa in partnership with Cloud On Demand hosted a C-suite roundtable, on Tuesday, 19 May 2026 at Signature Restaurant, Morningside. The discusion was themed around trust, security and AI driven innovation in the cloud era: "ISV Accelerate: Powering Innovation, Scale, and Success with AI", where industry leaders unpacked how zero trust, regulatory pressure and AI are redefining enterprise cloud strategies in South Africa. Across the discussion, one theme kept surfacing: cloud is no longer the question - trust is. While organisations have largely made the shift to cloud environments, the real complexity now sits in how securely and confidently they can operate within them, especially as AI accelerates data use and system integration across industries. What also became clear is that security is no longer confined to IT departments. It has moved firmly into boardroom conversations, driven by increasing compliance demands, stricter certification requirements, and the reality that enterprise clients will not engage without clear proof of secure, governed environments. At the same time, zero trust is steadily shifting from theory to practice, becoming embedded in how organisations design systems, manage third-party relationships and evaluate risk. Rather than slowing innovation, the consensus from the session was that when implemented correctly, trust frameworks are becoming enablers of scale and speed rather than barriers. AI adoption was another major focus, with participants agreeing that businesses can no longer afford to ignore the technology. However, several speakers cautioned against rushing implementation, advocating instead for controlled pilot projects, practical use cases and human oversight to manage risks such as AI hallucinations, poor governance and data exposure.
