  • Russ went from minimal auto repair experience learned from his dad to becoming the top technician at his first job in the industry. He didn't even have a license when he started training at Lincoln Tech.
  • His passion for home improvement and woodworking has resulted in several successful projects including a full raised bed garden with a fence and gate, and a custom table for tabletop roleplaying games with storage for maps, minis, dice, and other equipment.
  • While described by his wife as an "indoor cat", Russ's interest in hiking and camping gear has led to some fun outdoor adventures in the Colorado mountains and a ton of research, time, and money spent on gadgets and equipment.

Experience

Russ's experience in several jobs in the automotive industry, including technical school student, lube tech, ASE certified technician, and parts salesperson, has given him a unique perspective on the industry. An ownership change and injury brought Russ's pro wrenching career to an end, and he started a pro wrestling blog to pass the time. His writing career began at SlashGear sister site Wrestling Inc., where he was brought on as a Features writer. The opportunity to write for SlashGear has pushed Russ to become more invested in his hobbies, especially woodworking and hiking/camping tech. He feels that the added experience has made his writing more complete, with anecdotes from real life backing up opinions on products.

Education

Russ earned a degree in Automotive Technology from Lincoln Technical Institute, and held multiple ASE certifications as well as EPA certification in motor vehicle air conditioning.
