Vivo X500 Pro (Max): First Zeiss camera sample demonstrates 4K240 video quality. Up to 4K960 possible

After Vivo teased some of the new features of the X500 Pro generation, which will consist of two differently sized flagships this year, in the last week of August, we now get our first look at what the latest Zeiss cameras will be capable of. While 4K120 already enabled very smooth, high-quality video recordings on the predecessor, 4K240 is now the new limit, Thanks to frame interpolation, 4K480 and 4K960 videos will also be possible for the first time, as Vivo product manager Han Boxiao revealed on Weibo today, September 1.

It remains to be seen just how good the 4K slow-motion footage at up to 32x will look, but you can already watch a 4K video slowed down by a factor of 8. We’ve embedded the Weibo video in 4K quality on YouTube below. The scene was chosen well because it shows a backlighting scenarios, allowing us to observe how the new Vivo X500 Pro (Max) main cameras handle potentially challenging lighting conditions. So far, Vivo has only confirmed 4K240 for the main camera; the telephoto camera will likely still be limited to 4K120 and the ultra-wide-angle camera in the Vivo X300 Pro could only manage a maximum of 4K60.

Aside from the new “Super Dynamic Zeiss main camera”—likely based on the 50-megapixel 1/1.28-inch Sony Lytia L910 sensor with LOFIC technology— the Pro Max model features 3-degree gimbal stabilization for the main camera and the 200-megapixel telephoto, also with 3-degree OIS stabilization, from the Vivo X300 Ultra. The more compact Vivo X500 Pro, on the other hand, will forgo the 3-degree OIS and instead feature a 64-megapixel telephoto camera, as confirmed by previous teasers. The launch in China is set to take place in September, and a global launch—at least for the Vivo X500 and X500 Pro Max—should follow shortly thereafter.
