Frequently asked questions
- Microsoft 365 Copilot is an AI-powered assistant built into apps like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. It combines language models with your data from Microsoft Graph and Microsoft 365 using natural language prompts to answer questions, generate content, and analyze information in the tools you use every day.
- Copilot delivers AI assistance tailored to the Microsoft 365 app. For example, in Word, it helps drafts documents, suggests edits, and summarizes text. In Excel, it analyzes data, creates charts, and generates insights. In PowerPoint, it helps design presentations by generating outlines and recommending images or layouts. In Outlook, it drafts emails and summarizes lengthy email threads. In Teams, it recaps meetings and highlights action items from chats.
- Microsoft 365 Copilot is built with enterprise-grade security and privacy, using the same controls and permissions that help protect your data in Microsoft 365. Copilot follows your organization’s existing Microsoft 365 security settings.
Copilot interactions are designed to comply with your tenant’s security and compliance policies, including sensitivity labels and data loss prevention rules. Prompts, responses, and data are encrypted when stored. They aren’t used to train language models, including those used by Microsoft 365 Copilot. Microsoft is committed to privacy and responsible AI practices. - Copilot is available across Microsoft 365 (previously known as Office) apps, such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook. You can access Copilot in apps on the web, desktop, or mobile versions. Support for mobile versions of the apps is rolling out as well, so information workers can get AI assistance on the go.
