📌How to Choose the Right Data Analytics Certification? The world of data analytics certifications can feel overwhelming. From Google to Microsoft, Tableau to AWS, everyone seems to have a course that promises to "boost your career." But how do you figure out which one is worth your time, effort, and money? I’ve been there scrolling through endless recommendations, watching reviews, and feeling unsure if a certification will actually help. Here’s what I’ve learned through my own experience and conversations with peers. ▪️Understand Your Current Level : Are you just starting out? Or do you already have some hands on experience? If you’re a beginner, go for beginner friendly courses like the Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate or IBM Data Analyst Professional Certificate. These are structured, easy to follow, and give you a solid foundation. If you’re experienced, certifications like Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate or Tableau Desktop Specialist can help you dive deeper into specific tools. ▪️Align It with Your Career Goals : Ask yourself: What kind of data analyst do you want to be? If you’re interested in visualization, go for certifications in Tableau, Power BI, or even Excel. If big data excites you, explore AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud certifications. For a more generalist approach, choose courses that cover SQL, Python, and statistics . ▪️Look for Practical Learning : Theory is great, but practical skills are what will make you stand out. Choose certifications that include: 🔆Real world projects. 🔆Case studies. 🔆Hands on tools like SQL, Python, or Tableau. Remember, there’s no rush focus on quality over quantity. ▪️The Truth About Certifications : Here’s a little secret: certifications alone won’t land you a job. They’re a great starting point, but your real value lies in how you apply what you learn. Use your certification as a springboard to build projects, practice regularly, and strengthen your portfolio. I tried several data analyst courses. Here are my top 3. On one of my recent podcast sessions with the CEO of DecisionSpaak, Philip Ade-Akanbi, I shared how I started my journey into data analytics. Like many beginners, I went all in. I took courses on data analysis, machine learning, statistics, deep learning… name it! 😅 I also jumped between platforms like Udacity, Udemy, Coursera… It got overwhelming really fast. I wasn’t retaining much. I wasn’t building projects. I felt like I was going in circles. Honestly, I became fed up very early on. Eventually, I realized that structure, clarity, and real-world relevance matter more than the number of courses you take. After exploring several learning paths, here are the top 3 I’d confidently recommend to any aspiring data analyst or even professionals already on the job looking to upskill: 1. Associate Data Analyst in SQL: https://lnkd.in/de-UPNBX SQL is non-negotiable. It’s an essential skill for any data analyst. What I love about this course is how it goes beyond just teaching SQL syntax; it trains you to solve real business problems using queries and data analysis. 2. Data Analyst with Python: https://lnkd.in/dYAMcGzP If you want to do more than just run analyses, like automating repetitive tasks, Python is your next best friend. This course also has hands-on projects you can add to your portfolio. 3. Data Analyst in Power BI: https://lnkd.in/dG2eqJ74 This course introduces you to one of the most in-demand business intelligence tools. You'll learn how to build dashboards, visualize insights, and tell compelling data stories. If I had to start again, I’d skip the scattered approach and just focus on these three. There’s structure. There’s clarity. There’s hands-on experience. And yes, even if you’re already in the field, these are solid paths to sharpen your skills, even with a busy schedule.
