Explore top LinkedIn content from expert professionals.

Summary

Digital public infrastructure refers to government-led technology systems that provide essential services like identity, payments, and internet access to everyone, transforming daily lives by making things faster, easier, and more accessible. These innovations allow people—regardless of income or location—to participate in the digital economy, access social benefits, and connect to opportunities that were once out of reach.

  • Unlock access: Use digital tools such as online records, payment systems, and free Wi-Fi to open doors to banking, education, and government services that were previously difficult to reach.
  • Build opportunity: Take advantage of real-time digital platforms to grow your business, access formal credit, and interact with new markets beyond your local community.
  • Streamline services: Benefit from paperless, instant, and secure processes that reduce wait times, cut down on bureaucracy, and promote transparency in public service delivery.

“Ten years ago, a Mumbai street vendor couldn’t open a bank account. Today, he accepts instant digital payments from anyone in the country — for free.” — Emmanuel Macron, President of France Let that sink in. In just a decade, India has transformed from limited financial access to becoming one of the world’s most advanced digital payment ecosystems. What changed? 🔹 Financial inclusion at scale 🔹 Digital public infrastructure (Aadhaar, Jan Dhan, UPI) 🔹 Mobile-first adoption 🔹 Low-cost, interoperable systems Today, even the smallest street vendor can: • Receive instant payments • Eliminate cash dependency • Access formal credit • Build transaction history • Participate in the formal economy This isn’t just about fintech. It’s about economic empowerment. When technology becomes inclusive infrastructure—not just a product—it changes lives at the grassroots level. The real innovation? Making it accessible, free, and scalable for 1.4 billion people. India’s digital payment revolution is proof that public-private collaboration can drive systemic change. The question now is: 👉 Which country will build the next breakthrough in inclusive digital infrastructure? #DigitalTransformation #FinancialInclusion #UPI #Fintech #Innovation #DigitalIndia

People think the financial revolution is happening in Silicon Valley boardrooms. But the real one is unfolding in the streets of India. Picture this: a fruit seller under the afternoon sun, a tiny stand, a handwritten price card… and a UPI QR code. A decade of digital infrastructure (Aadhaar for identity, affordable smartphones, ubiquitous data) has unlocked something profound… Independence. People who once operated almost entirely in cash now own bank accounts, receive benefits directly, and run their businesses on real-time rails. A single UPI ID turns a sidewalk into a storefront and a neighborhood into a network. Real-time data is the heartbeat of inclusion at scale. Banks use Aerospike to open, verify, score, and serve millions of new customers the instant they step into the formal economy. When the infrastructure is real-time, micro-transactions feel effortless. A vendor gets paid in seconds. A farmer settles a deal from a feature phone. A first-time account holder sees funds arrive immediately. Small moments, massive compounding impact. Inclusion becomes inevitable when identity, connectivity, and real-time data align. That’s the story I’m proud to be part of, and the trajectory we’re accelerating every day.

Can free Wi-Fi at a railway station truly change a man’s entire future and life journey forever? The inspiring journey of Sreenath K is a powerful example of how determination and technology can transform a life. He worked as a porter at Ernakulam Railway Station in Kerala, earning a very modest daily income. Despite financial struggles, he never gave up on his dream of studying and improving his future. In 2016, everything changed when free Wi-Fi was introduced at the station under the Digital India initiative. Sreenath used this opportunity wisely. While continuing his physically demanding job, he began accessing online study materials during breaks and after work hours. He would listen to educational audio lessons while working and download notes and question papers using the free internet. This consistent effort helped him prepare for competitive exams without expensive coaching. His hard work paid off when he cleared the Kerala Public Service Commission exam. Later, after multiple attempts, he achieved success in the UPSC Civil Services Examination, marking a major milestone in his journey. Sreenath K’s story continues to inspire millions, showing how access to digital tools, combined with strong willpower, can completely change a person’s destiny.

Getting vital records, such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, passports, etc., needs not be complicated. It certainly should not depend on the whims and moods of civil servants. In this episode of The Africa Program, I speak with Israel Bimpe, Chief Executive Officer of Irembo, about Rwanda’s innovative approach to digitizing public services and the broader implications for governance and service delivery across Africa. Drawing on Irembo’s decade-long evolution, Bimpe explains how the platform has transformed citizen interactions with government—while reducing inefficiencies, eliminating opportunities for corruption, and improving access for citizens at every level. The conversation explores Rwanda’s “Zero Trip, Zero Paper” philosophy, the importance of USSD accessibility for low-income and rural users, and the critical role of trust, data protection, and reliable infrastructure in building a successful digital ecosystem. We also discuss lessons from global models such as Singapore and Estonia, as well as Rwanda’s unique experience developing regulations, integrating agencies, and navigating the cultural change required to shift services online. This is a timely, accessible conversation for anyone interested in technology, governance, and the future of public services in Africa. #rwanda #digitaltechnology #publicrecords #publicservicedelivery #socialcontract #africa #cybersecurity #singapore #estonia https://lnkd.in/gBGf5VmJ

Over the past decade, India has developed a distinct approach to digital and AI governance (different from the EU, US, and China) centered on population-scale public infrastructure. This model integrates digital identity, payments, authentication, and data-sharing into welfare and health systems. It now underpins insurance enrollment, provider payments, disease surveillance, telemedicine, and pharmaceutical supply chains for hundreds of millions of people. This approach shows how AI and digital systems can be aligned with universal health coverage while strengthening capacity for administration and innovation. This is how AI can work for #HealthForAll. The implications can go well beyond low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), with key lessons for health systems struggling with fragmentation and platform dependence. It has been a pleasure to work on this Think Global Health article with Ilona Kickbusch, Anurag Agrawal and Khartik Adapa . Do let us know what you think! https://lnkd.in/d4bTtZ3Q
