So what happens if we don’t adapt? 😕 Engagement drops → Purely educational content without an engaging hook gets overlooked. 😖 Brand recall weakens → People remember stories, humor, and emotions—not just facts. 😑 Reach shrinks → Algorithms prioritize engaging content, and if yours doesn’t hook people, it won’t be seen. The solution? Edutainment. Instead of choosing between educational and entertaining content, combine the two. Here’s how: ✅ Traditional educational content: Blog posts, case studies, reports, how-to guides. ✅ Entertainment-based content: Interactive quizzes, polls, short-form videos, memes, storytelling posts. ✅ Hybrid (Edutainment) content: Infotainment-style videos, gamified learning, storytelling-based lessons, social media threads with humor. Why does this work? Because people crave dopamine, not just data. → A well-told story makes an audience listen. → A fun quiz makes them engage. → A short, entertaining video makes them stay. I just eliminated one of my biggest time sinks in creating educational content for electrical engineering courses. If you've ever tried to create professional-looking circuit diagrams for teaching materials, you know the pain: - Fighting with drawing tools to get components aligned - Inconsistent symbol styles across diagrams - Spending 30+ minutes on a simple RLC circuit - Redoing everything when you need to change one value - Export quality issues (fuzzy PNGs, broken SVGs) For my AI Circuits Course, I needed hundreds of clean, consistent schematics. The thought of hand-drawing each one was... not appealing. So I built a Claude Code skill to do it for me. Now I just describe what I want in plain English: "Draw a series RLC circuit with R=100Ω, L=50mH, and C=10μF powered by 10V AC" And Claude generates production-ready Schemdraw Python code, renders it to SVG, and follows consistent layout conventions: - Power source vertical on the left - Components arranged cleanly on the right - Proper ground connections - Professional labels with values The kicker? Total development time: under 2 hours. But what inputs are needed to create relevant and effective instructional content? - Your persona's prior knowledge and experience - Your persona's goals and motivation - Your persona's common pain points and misunderstandings - The specific outcomes the full learning experience should drive - The specific objectives to be met within the learning experience - The behavioral metrics the learning should influence If you skip this and simply use AI to "create a course about X,Y,Z," you'll end up with a (probably) pretty and engaging informational experience that (most definitely) misses the mark in driving any actual impact. A couple years ago, I took a course that nearly broke me. Not because it was difficult, but because it was so boring that my attention span just gave up. That frustration sparked a question: What if learning felt like watching a blockbuster movie? I wanted to share an experiment with AI to create something education, entertaining and different. Version one im calling “BOOKS WITH CROOKS!” – an educational action movie that turns dry content into an adventure. Think tutorials meets Hollywood, complete with a rapping section (because why not make learning memorable AND exciting?). The real problem we’re Ignoring is regular educational content fails not because people aren’t smart enough, but because it’s designed to drain attention rather than capture it. We’re forcing engagement through willpower alone, when we should be designing for genuine interest. Actionable Takeaways for Educators & Content Creators: 1. Borrow from Entertainment - use storytelling principles to your educational content - think: What would the “movie trailer” version of this lesson look like? 2. Match Format to Attention Span - If people binge Netflix for hours, the problem isn’t attention, it’s engagement - play with narrative structures, conflict, and resolution in your teaching 3.
