If you are already an independent consultant or are thinking about becoming one, I HIGHLY recommend you DO NOT use your Gmail address as your email address for your work. It can be tough to land new opportunities as a consultant, and if you and someone else are being considered for a project, you will be that much more likely to be selected if you have a professional email address. It signals to the prospective client that you take this seriously and have invested in yourself and in your craft. A domain name and email address are not as cost-prohibitive as they once were. Take the time, make yourself look as professional as possible, and increase your odds of landing the next project. Added benefit: look good, feel good, am I right?
