  • In the era of cloud technologies and artificial intelligence, businesses must continue to make it a priority to protect data at every stage. While encryption of data in transit and at rest is standard practice, much of that data must be decrypted in memory for processing, which can create potential security risks. Confidential computing is an emerging solution designed to address this challenge by keeping data encrypted even while it’s actively being used by applications. Leveraging tools like hardware-based Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs), confidential computing isolates sensitive data within secure enclaves on CPUs or GPUs, preventing unauthorized access. At State Farm, we’re committed to exploring such innovative technologies that safeguard data and enable secure, scalable cloud adoption. • As the digital economy evolves, so do the ways cyber risks are managed. Parametric cyber insurance is an innovative approach gaining momentum by applying parametric insurance concepts to cyber outages. This new application addresses challenges such as cloud service disruptions, Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks, and ransomware incidents. Unlike conventional insurance that depends on lengthy forensic investigations and proof of loss, parametric cyber insurance uses AI, IoT, and API-integrated monitoring tools to set predefined payout thresholds triggered by objective third-party data. At State Farm, we’re constantly evaluating new options to better protect consumers in a rapidly changing cyber landscape. Check out ventures.statefarm.com to learn more about opportunities to collaborate and innovate with State Farm. • As we look ahead, State Farm is exploring the emergence of Hybrid Quantum Computing (HQC), which is set to transform how we approach complex problem solving. Quantum computing promises to revolutionize the field by performing calculations much faster than traditional computers, using qubits and the principles of quantum mechanics instead of bits. However, quantum computers alone can't efficiently solve every problem just yet. That’s where HQC comes in, and combines the strengths of both quantum and classical computers for better performance. Two key methods being widely tested are quantum annealing, which excels at finding optimal solutions in complex scenarios, and gate-based systems, which can manage a broader range of algorithms. Reach out to us at ventures.statefarm.com to learn more about opportunities to collaborate and innovate with State Farm. • We are currently exploring Gaussian Splatting, an approach that enables the creation of detailed 3D models from images and videos. Unlike traditional modeling techniques, this method uses Gaussian functions — essentially 2D discs — to represent objects, people, and environments with remarkable detail, including accurate representations of reflections, transparency, and lighting conditions. A key component of this process is photogrammetry, which involves capturing multiple images of an object or scene from different angles, ensuring overlap between the photos. Specialized software then analyzes these images, identifying common points to determine their spatial relationships and create a realistic 3D model. With this technology, a user can take a photo with their smartphone and quickly generate a 3D model within minutes. Many insurance companies are starting to adopt 3D visualization tools to make claims processing faster and more accurate, ultimately improving the experience for their customers. • State Farm Ventures is proud to announce its strategic investment in Quantum Rings, a leader in quantum computing simulation technology. Quantum Rings offers a groundbreaking platform capable of simulating hundreds of logical qubits and millions of gate operations on standard hardware. This investment will help propel Quantum Rings' mission to democratize quantum computing, making it accessible for developers, researchers, and enterprises. Their advanced simulation technology not only achieves high fidelity, surpassing traditional simulators, but also reduces the time and complexity involved in adopting quantum solutions. The State Farm Ventures team is dedicated to investing in innovative opportunities that advance technological capabilities and move industry forward. Alongside Duality Accelerator and the Polsky Center at the University of Chicago, we look forward to supporting Quantum Rings as they continue to innovate and drive the future of quantum computing.

  • Decentralized identity, or Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI), is a system that uses technologies like blockchain to help people manage and verify their digital identities and documents. Unlike traditional systems that are controlled by central authorities, this approach may allow individuals to have fuller control over their own identities and personal data. This method may improve security by lowering the chances of large data breaches and enhances privacy by allowing users to share only the necessary information. Overall, decentralized identity management is a major step towards a safer, more user-focused, and privacy-friendly way of verifying digital identities and documents. Whether it's understanding advancements in data security or ideating new ways to protect sensitive information, State Farm is on a mission to explore, develop, and engage in innovative solutions now and for the future.
