How is a silicone replication mold assembled? Take a look—this is a finished one. The vertical & horizontal guide pins on the sides prevent deformation during assembly and disassembly. These yellow ABS rods are the material inlets; silicone is injected into the mold through them. This white part is the replicated part, made from a master model. This silicone mold is being filled with material right now. All these thick and thin metal pins are guide pins for positioning, and the yellow ones are the sprue gates. Some have asked how silicone molds are made, so this video will walk you through the process. 👉 First, a 3D-printed master prototype is created. Then, the prototype is securely fixed, and liquid silicone is poured over it. The mold is placed in a vacuum chamber to remove air bubbles before being left to cure for several hours. Once solidified, the master prototype is removed, and the silicone mold is trimmed of any excess edges—completing a reusable silicone mold. 👉 Next, your chosen material is poured into the mold, vacuum-degassed, and pressurized. Alternatively, it can be directly injected using a vacuum casting machine.
