The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stevens provides a collaborative educational environment that advances technological research frontiers and scientific discovery in product design, advanced manufacturing, thermal/fluid systems, sustainable energy, micro-nanotechnology, robotics, pharmaceutical manufacturing and biomechanical engineering. We aim to produce graduates who will become future innovators and leaders with a knowledge-based foundation, problem-solving skills, and an ability to address critical societal challenges and their uncertainties.

🤖 Robots, CAD and Competition: Stevens Team Advances at VEX Tournament The Stevens Robotics Club recently placed in the quarterfinals among 10 collegiate teams at the VCAT VEX U Tournament at Vaughn College. The interdisciplinary team brings together students from multiple departments to design, build, and program robots from the ground up while tackling real-world engineering challenges in a competitive setting. Team members Max Green, Arantza Diaz Villegas, Praneeth Vanguru, Lillie Miller, Michael Cougle, Timothy Kennedy, Abhaya Surya Avalur, Ifeanyi Ononiwu and Akeo Diaz applied CAD, 3D printing, coding and match strategy to build two robots, which compete in new tournaments each year against other collegiate teams from across the Northeast U.S. The team is now refining their designs for the final competition of the season at the University of Delaware on February 28. #StevensSES #VEXU #Robotics #EngineeringInAction #HandsOnLearning Department of Computer Science at Stevens Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stevens

🏆 A recent highlight worth sharing: Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stevens Ph.D. student Andy Li received a Best Application Paper Award at IEEE IROS 2025, one of the world’s leading international conferences in robotics. Selected from 2,672 papers submitted by researchers across 66 countries, Andy’s work under associate professor Damiano Zanotto helps explore how wearable robotic devices can adapt to individuals in real time by supporting rehabilitation while encouraging active participation from the user. This achievement reflects the strength of doctoral training in robotics at Stevens and the impact of deep collaboration across engineering and clinical research. Kudos to our partners and teams at both the Kessler Foundation, led by Dr. Karen J. 🎉 Celebrating record-breaking research at Stevens! In fiscal year 2025, the Schaefer School of Engineering and Science secured a record $77.3 million in external funding, supporting breakthroughs and growing impact across healthcare, AI, robotics, climate resilience, sustainability and advanced engineering systems. Numerous faculty and their research teams contributed to this milestone, with several groups landing $1 million or more in project funding. Highlights include NIH-funded biomedical research, ONR-supported autonomous maritime projects, DOE-backed environmental innovation, and NSF partnerships through the new GO Blue Center. Kudos to Professor Eui-Hyeok Yang of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stevens, on his appointment as a Distinguished Lecturer by the IEEE Nanotechnology Council, beginning January 2025. He continues to serve as a Distinguished Lecturer for the IEEE Sensors Council (2023–2025). Selection by two IEEE Councils recognizes Professor Yang’s contributions to nanoscience, sensing technologies and engineering education. Through the Distinguished Lecturer programs, he will share research and engage audiences worldwide. We heartily congratulate Professor Yang on this meaningful recognition!
