Recent media moments have thrust Tourette syndrome back into the public spotlight, but not always in ways that reflect the lived realities of those who experience it. While controversy often drives attention, it rarely creates understanding. In the first installment in this series, DynaMed Medical Writer Michael Butler, Ph.D. reframes that moment by grounding the conversation in clinical context, personal experience, and current limitations of treatment, with the goal of moving beyond sensationalism toward clarity and compassion in honor of Tourette Syndrome Awareness Month. https://m.ebsco.is/upBA4 #TouretteSyndrome #Neurology #TicDisorders #TSAwarenessMonth

Building an AI-native hospital could transform care delivery, but it also raises critical questions about trust, safety and cybersecurity. In a recent Healthcare Brew feature, UT Austin outlined plans for a $1B “AI-native” medical center designed to integrate AI across clinical care, operations, and research from the ground up. As Katherine Eisenberg, MD, PhD, FAAFP, Senior Medical Director of Dyna AI, notes, while this level of integration can unlock significant clinical and operational value, it also expands cybersecurity, consent and oversight risks that health systems will need to actively manage. This balance between innovation and safeguards will be essential as healthcare systems build AI into the foundation of care. Ending our series for Hepatitis Awareness Month, prevention of hepatitis infection is the best way to prevent long term consequences such as chronic liver disease and liver cancer. Here's what you need to know: • Most people with hepatitis B or C have no symptoms. They may have acquired infection as early as infancy (especially for hepatitis B), which lay dormant for decades. • Safe and effective vaccines are available to prevent hepatitis A and hepatitis B. • There is no vaccine for hepatitis C, but it is curable with oral medications. #hepatitis #HepA #HepB #HepC #HepatitisAwareness

What happens after the conversation ends? Episode 14 of Unleashed: Redefining Health Care introduces a new format—a response episode—featuring Roy Ziegelstein, MD, MACP, reacting to our discussion on caring for people with serious mental illness from Episode 13. Building on the challenges of keeping vulnerable patients healthy and out of the hospital, Roy reflects on what it takes to deliver more consistent, compassionate, and effective care for individuals with complex behavioral and medical needs. As sponsors of Unleashed, EBSCO Clinical Decisions is proud to support conversations that don’t stop at awareness but push the dialogue forward with expert perspectives grounded in real-world care and evidence-informed thinking. 🎧 Listen to Episode 14: A Response to Caring for Patients with Serious Mental Illness Spotify: https://lnkd.in/es76bVya Apple: https://lnkd.in/e2dR49Z4 #UnleashedPodcast #CareCoordination #HealthcareInnovation #ClinicalCare #HealthSystems

Continuing our series for Hepatitis Awareness Month, let's discuss how hepatitis viruses spread. While each virus can be transmitted via blood, there are other nuances about spread for each virus. • Hepatitis A spreads through contaminated food or water and close personal contact, including sexual contact. Less common routes of transmission include injection drug use and blood transfusion. • Hepatitis B spreads through blood and body fluids, including sexual contact, sharing needles, through cuts and abrasions in the skin, and from parent to infant at birth. • Hepatitis C spreads mainly through blood exposure, such as from sharing needles or syringes and occupational exposure in healthcare settings. Stay tuned for more facts throughout the month of May. #hepatitis #HepA #HepB #HepC #HepatitisAwareness

About 30–60% of patients who have taken antidepressants for more than one month may experience discontinuation syndrome if the medication is stopped abruptly or the dose is significantly reduced. Common symptoms can be remembered using the FInISH acronym: • Flu-like symptoms • Insomnia • Imbalance • Sensory disturbances • Hyperarousal Careful planning matters. An individualized, clinician supervised tapering strategy can help reduce the risk and severity of symptoms. Learn more about evidence based approaches to antidepressant discontinuation from DynaMedex. https://m.ebsco.is/uoMqh #SSRI #Antidepressants #Depression #MentalHealth

Ebola in DRC: What makes this outbreak different—and why it matters for clinicians The current Ebola outbreak, a WHO-declared global health emergency, is driven by the Bundibugyo strain, a rare ebolavirus with important implications. As of mid-May 2026, hundreds of suspected cases and over 100 deaths have been reported in the DRC, with cross-border spread into Uganda. Presentation is consistent with other Ebola strains (fever, malaise, GI symptoms, hemorrhagic progression), requiring high suspicion in at-risk patients. The key difference between this outbreak and previous Ebola Zaire outbreaks is that there are no approved vaccines. Existing vaccines (e.g., Ervebo) are not approved for Bundibugyo virus and there is limited evidence of cross-protection. Without vaccine-based ring containment, prevention relies on fundamentals: • Early identification and isolation • Strict infection prevention and control (IPC) • Contact tracing and surveillance This outbreak underscores a critical gap—Ebola preparedness remains strain-specific. In the absence of vaccines, clinical vigilance and public health infrastructure are the primary tools for containment.
