The European Commission is rushing to set Minimum Performance Standards (MPS) for #DataCentres. 💻⚡ The problem? The rating scheme to measure them has not even been finalised yet. 🤦♂️ Worse, these standards appear to rely on a tiny sample size, undermining predictability for large-scale, multi-year #AI and digital infrastructure investments. In a joint statement to the Commission, #CCIAeurope and other trade associations are calling for a pause on MPS development until policymakers can consult a broader range of operators across different data centre configurations. How can the EU’s #DataCentre rating scheme serve as a meaningful #sustainability tool if it ignores local #climate realities and the water vs energy trade-off? 🌍 Efficiency isn’t one-size-fits-all. 🛑 Data centres in the Nordics and Southern Europe operate under fundamentally different conditions, which the scheme must reflect. ❄️☀️ At CCIA Europe, we are calling for a smarter, more proportional approach: ✅ Account for local and technological realities, including geographical conditions, flexible solutions such as evaporative cooling, and the water-carbon-energy nexus. ✅ Reduce paperwork and regulatory complexity by replacing manual forms with automated, API-driven reporting. ✅ Ensure performance standards are evidence-based and support Europe’s #competitiveness. Do fair relationships in Europe’s #audiovisual sector really require further EU regulatory intervention? 🎥 In our new position paper, we argue against a premature revision of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive. Many Member States are still in the process of transposing the 2018 revision, and there is no clear evidence of market failure that would justify a structural reopening the #AVMSD. 🛑 Rather than introducing new legislation, the focus should be on consistent #enforcement and greater #harmonisation across the EU. The European Commission can best support the audiovisual ecosystem by simplifying rules for #broadcasters instead of adding new obligations for #digital players.
