We Are The World

We Are The World

As many of you close to me know, last year around this time in a far more intimate format and appropriate forum than LinkedIn, I shared some thoughts and reflections. And, as I have chosen to spend my holidays trekking about in far off lands again this year - some of you may be burdened with the results of my spending that significant time alone with my thoughts once again.

One thing did compel me to create a rare personal post on here out of it's appropriateness for the masses, the history it brought forward for me personally as a child which I thought might occur for others, and for the timeless positivity held within the lyrics of the song.

Interestingly, 2015 marks the 30th anniversary of the recording of We Are the World, written by Michael Jackson (@michaeljackson) and Lionel Richie (@lionelrichie) to help ease the pain of poverty in Africa, #USAforAfrica. And, as I was walking thinking back through my life, I started singing this as my sister and I use to do often - including perhaps our pre-teen open mic debut at the lodge in Summerhaven on top of Mount Lemmon outside of Tucson, AZ - but that's another story entirely. It's as I worked my way through the lyrics, that the timelessness and timeliness of it hit me as it could have been written this year as a tribute given the multitude of things that have been going on all around the world.

As the world moves through our time, I simply wanted to share a link for anyone interested so that they may listen to the lyrics again or perhaps for the first time depending upon your generation. And, with that, send you all a little piece of my heart. Happy Holidays.

Wow. I was just listening to this song myself on Christmas morning as my husband and I were preparing our home for the arrival of family. I was singing along thinking how easily it could have been just written this year. It made me feel blessed to have the good fortune I have and how important it is to be grateful for all that I have - especially the family that would soon be arriving.
