Yes, yes it does. We keep hearing that statement "We are living in..." I can't even finish that sentence. We all know this, me more than others. A lot of companies had to transition from seeing people and making handshake deals to video meetings and making decisions without face to face interaction. We went from being able to lick our fingers after a great meal to not being sure if we can even walk down the same hall as someone else. Trying times? Uncertain times? What about times that we need to be better with one another. We should work with everyone we can, we should support and not scare.
I know, furlough, fired, let go due to Covid-19! These are the new horror stories. Things have defiantly changed for the worse, your feeling of loss, insecurity and doubt is not something that is in you alone. I try to jog now every morning in order to get rid of energy that I do not need. The nights that use to be great for me because I was sleeping well is now filled with thoughts and fears about taking care of my family. I hate that feeling, I really do not want to be in the position that I need to tell my girls that its time to leave our place because we can't afford it anymore. My littlest one asks me every other day why I always look worried. Now the reason I write this after a long hiatus is this.
You are not alone. I am scared, every day. I get reminded that things are hard and I can be let go at any time. I was put on notice during a meeting.
So what can help. Well things like this. Talking about it. Being there for others and trying your best. I have been in contact with a lot of recruiters and helping them connect to people they are looking for. I have seen an old company that I worked for. The Head Honcho offered to give endorsements to people that worked for the company. I have two other people that I knew who managed teams as well help with practicing video interviews. We may not be able to to do much. But what we can do we should.
"Hey, if you see a chance to be kind to someone tomorrow, take it, I think we need it." - Brad Pitt
“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”― Fred Rogers
I like quotes of people who had something to say. Brad really hit the nail on the head with his acceptance speech. Fred Rogers was someone who I think we should watch over and over again. We are grown, but we can always learn something. So that is what I ask of all of you. Learn how you can take care of others. Help someone out when you can. Say hi to a neighbor you have never talked to before just to say hi.
