Squint Testing Your Brand

Squint Testing Your Brand

I get asked all the time for feedback on brand logos. A few simple tricks to remember will keep your brand and company looking like a "Billion" dollar brand vs. working out of a garage.

Starting with logo design. One simple but powerful technique can make all the difference: the Squint Test!

Here's how it works: Take a step back from your design, squint your eyes, and observe how the elements come together. Is the business name the clear focal point? Are the shape, words, layout, and iconic elements harmoniously aligned?

A well-executed logo should be easily recognizable and readable in all sizes, leaving no room for compromise. In today's visually-driven world, a logo that fails the Squint Test might miss countless opportunities to make a lasting impact.

Take a moment to evaluate your next logo creation using the test. If the name isn't the dominant element, no worries—simply head back to your design team and fine-tune until it shines!

Let's raise the bar together and create logos that truly stand out. Share your thoughts in the comments—how many logos out there do you think violate this essential rule?

Totally agree Ron. Clarity and no room for confusion are the biggest priorities. I almost always recommend taking out the fancy meaningless graphic thing that gets in the way of the actual logotype, despite what their junior designer says. :)
