So long, Jetstar
Dear colleagues and friends,
Today marks my 6th anniversary with the Jetstar Airways Group and the close of my journey with an amazing organisation. I have resigned from the company and would like to share a few highlights of my six years in the company and the wonderful connections I had the good fortune of making during my tenure.
Just a few months into my role in 2013, a family tragedy required me to be with them overseas for an extended period of time. Despite being on probation, my Manager and Leader graciously allowed me to work remotely from a location the company did not operate in, nor had any business activity. This kind arrangement allowed me to be with my loved ones during the trying time, while giving me the peace of mind from gainful employment. I cannot be more thankful for their faith and trust in me.
In 2015, I decided to pursue a postgraduate degree programme to enhance my skillset and contribute more to a company that has been immensely supportive of my growth – an undertaking that required me to attend classes every weekday evening. Following this programme, I embarked on my second postgraduate degree. Both were wholeheartedly supported by my Manager and Leader in the form of paid leave, and sometimes, materials and interview for my projects. This speaks volumes of the exceptional company culture that recognises the potential in every one of us.
Most recently in 2017, I started on yet another personal project to take charge of my health. In this endeavour, I have since shed close to 30kg. This is an accomplishment I could not have made without the continuous support of my bosses who permitted flexible working arrangements so that I may incorporate my fitness schedule with the demands of my role.
Apart from helping me flourish personally, the guidance and motivation of my Manager also helped me excel in professional areas. I was entrusted with envisioning a new market strategy for Indonesia – and eventually executing it. This led me to win the Jetstar Sales Excellence Award and I was promoted to Senior Manager in 2018.
As I end this chapter of my professional life, I want to take this opportunity to thank a few awesome people who have made my time with the company a memorable one:
• My heartfelt appreciation and lifelong gratitude for my Manager Leslie Ng, who hired me and spent countless hours coaching and mentoring me. More than just advancing professionally, I also gained better clarity in life thanks to his guidance and sharing.
• The Chief Salesman of Jetstar Group, Paul Rombeek, who brings an infectious personality and positivity to any situation. Thank you for pushing me beyond my limits, allowing me to uncover my unknown abilities in the area of data & analytics, and for recognising my efforts.
• Catriona Larritt, our Chief Commercial Officer, who is always generous with praise and words of encouragement. Thank you for always responding to emails and correspondences, even if it was a simple report. You always gave valuable feedback for improvement and your efforts to do so greatly motivated me to keep improving my work.
• The current and past members of my Indonesia sales team: Dedy Arisandi, Junjung Halim, Helmy Pietersz, Fikri Zikri, Rizky Danurwindo and Mayla Andry. It was my honour to be your team leader and my achievements would not have been possible without your hard work and support.
• Tan Wei Ming, for introducing me to Jetstar and encouraging me to apply for my first role with the company.
• Tian Xueyuan, for teaching me the ropes of data reports and analytics during my initial period with the company.
• Jeremy Ho, for being my kaki and teaching me all about Jetstar and LCCs.
• Evan Kruse, for being my guru on everything OTAs, metasearches, APIs and LCC distribution.
• Rita Nasr, for being one of the best colleagues one can ask for.
“Time well spent leads to life well lived”, said Martin Uzochukwu Ugwu. I’m happy I had a life well lived at Jetstar. This may be goodbye but it is most certainly not farewell.
