Smaller things!
We have all heard, said and believed that it’s the smaller, finer things that make up experiences... be it in business, user experience, employee experience, you name it – smaller things matter!
This is how it is lived at Niki:
I joined this team back in August 2019, as I write this, it dawns on me that 16 months flew by already! I was a relative new bee on this team back in Dec’2019 understanding how the teams operate and strategizing plans for the teams I’d be heading. By then, I was already smitten by how grounded the team was and how humble and sincere everyone around was in their approach towards chasing the vision of “No one should be left behind”. I think that’s what sets this team apart – their humble and groundedness! (ok, that maybe isn’t a word, but you understand the intent :p)
It was the 2nd week of December last year, we received the Holiday calendar for 2020 from one of the founders who also donning the hat of a HR head! A look at it and I noticed that one of the “popular” holidays was missing from the list. I dropped a note asking if we missed including it or something to the likes of it. I got a prompt response back saying that the “popular” holiday wasn’t historically included, but will be considered as a feedback for the upcoming year. That ended there.
Cut to December 2020 – a year that felt like a fast forward marathon! Exhausting at so many levels, yet leaving you with a sense of achievement that you made it through to the finish line : D. One nice afternoon, I received a ping from one of the department heads asking which date does this “popular” holiday fall on? A little taken aback, I gave the date and went about doing my work- 30 mins later we receive the Holiday Calendar of 2021, with the “popular” holiday on the list. How do you think that left me feeling?
Had the holiday not been included this year, it wouldn’t have changed anything in my life at Niki. I for one did not even remember writing that email to the founder, but this tiny gesture of keeping in mind what I had mentioned and incorporating it promptly a year later, left me stoked! In this age where you’re only as good as your last transaction, having that commitment to make that one small change 365 days after a word was given, is the sign of a world class organization. Not necessarily by size but in character! My respect for this team increased multifold apart from my belief being reinforced that I am associated with the right team.
If a team with this level of commitment towards building a culture of trust and respect doesn’t transform the lives of 500 million new to internet users, I don’t know who can!
Smaller things & that’s how it’s done at Niki!
