Shocking Beverage Developments
"Shocking" may be a strong word, but imagine this: It's 1965. Your Mom pours you an ice cold Coke or Pepsi on a hot summer day and tells you, "When you grow up, water will be more popular than carbonated drinks, like Coke or Pepsi."
"Yeah sure Mom!"
We're not quite there, but we're getting close.
This from Plastics News (one of my favorite weekly reads). "New details released by Beverage Marketing Corp. at The Packaging Conference in Henderson show that carbonated soft drinks clung on to a slight edge over bottled water last year, but its lead continues to fizzle. Gary Hemphill, managing director and chief operating officer of research at BMC, said bottled water consumption grew by 7.6 percent last year while carbonated soda fell by 1.1 percent."
Hemphill goes on to predict that by the end of 2016 or the beginning of 2017, bottled water will overtake carbonated soft drinks as the number one drink category in the US. Juice is taking a beating too.
Mom was right, but we're not that surprised - not from what we see in our Venue Fresh Markets, where pure water and flavored waters are flying off the shelves.
One product that is super-hot - could be the next big thing - hint water. Like so many refreshment trends, this one has flowed down from the Silicon Valley to the Silicon Beach and Gourmet Coffee Service is ready to bring it to your office.
This is from the hint website (a place that does not always use capital letters)...
