Remote Interview Tips!

Social distancing has changed the way we communicate in the workplace and with employers. Meetings and interviews are being held remotely over programs like Zoom or Skype—which require an entirely different skillset from what we may be used to.

If you are interviewing remotely, here are five tips to make a great first impression and set yourself up for success:

1. Have a Positive Mental Attitude (PMA)—Here at Bankers Healthcare Group we live by these words. Make a great first impression and put a smile on your face before turning on the camera!

2. Use Your Resources—Believe it or not, interviewing remotely has its perks. Use post-it notes to remind you of important information and frame them around your screen. Print out your resume and tape it to your wall. Be careful, eye contact is key, but a look here and there never hurts.

3. Test Your Gadgets—There is nothing worse than having to hold up a meeting due to technical difficulties. Before your interview, take the time to test your internet connection, video chat software, microphone, and everything in between. Consider calling a friend for a test run!

4. Be on Time — This may seem obvious, but it's easy to get distracted at home. Make sure that you set a reminder at least 30 minutes before your interview, so you have time to prepare.

5. Be Yourself! — At BHG, we hire on a culture-first, talent-second basis. At the end of the day, being transparent helps both you and the hiring manager understand if it's the right fit.
