Process, process, process...and improvise too!
If you want to do efficient, productive, impactful work, you need to follow a plan...a process...an outline. But to do creative, innovative, bounds-breaking work requires some out of the box thinking, a new perspective, improvisation. You need to find a way to tap into the best of both to do the best work you can do. You need to find that fine line, the gray area, between a rigid set of rules and a no structure at all.
Lesson: Data exploration journey
In this lesson, I walk you through my rough process and explain how nonlinear and circular it can be, while extolling the virtues of having a plan.
Listen: Data exploration journey with Erica Gunn
Erica Gunn PhD, MFA wrote a series of articles about her Data Exploration Journey, which is a process–really a way of thinking about data visualization–that allows you to have a plan, but also veer from that plan without worrying too much about it! Interestingly, she writes about it as part of a way of beating imposter syndrome!
