The Million Dollar Question: What do you want to be when you grow up?
Have you been asked this question thousands of times in your life, but never truly known the answer? I know I have. Honestly, depending on who is asking, it may garner a different answer; and I have spent a lot of time trying to figure out why. I’m the type of person who hears an idea and runs with it. When I see something that sparks my interest I have to know more. Depending on the day of the week, what I want to be when I grow up may sound radically different than the next day.
I think the real question that we should start asking is, who do you want to be when you grow up? At first take it may seem like an equally daunting question, but give it some thought. The answer may surprise you.
At the end of the day, do people look back at what you did or who you were? For the vast majority of us, I would say the latter is more often the case. What is it that drives you to be successful? How is your work ethic? Are you passionate? I think these are much better things that a person should know besides what you want to do for work.
I honestly don’t know what I want to be when I grow up. What I do know, is that I embrace failure and success, constantly learn, and follow the road as it is laid out in front of me. As far as whom I want to be when I grow up? That’s easy. I want to be a person that drives to solve problems with passion, and make a lasting impact on the person, place, or thing that I’m working with, on, or for. The road has yet to be laid for any of us. Let’s see where it goes.
Find who you are, and it will lead you to who you want to be. Take time to think about who you are, and it will open up a world of possibility you may never have thought about otherwise.
